Such as it is, it has been put together at the desire of their Royal Highnesses the Prince and Princess of Wales, who have intrusted the private journals, letters, and other papers of their sons to me for this purpose. Though three years have gone by since the ship was paid off, it is only within the last few months that I have been free or had leisure to arrange the material for publication.
