The "Flying Squadron," consisting of 4 frigates and 2 corvettes, sailed in 1869 from Plymouth to the Pacific : Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Vancouver, B.C., Hawaii, and Tahiti. In Honolulu June 16-23, 1870, the officers visited the Pali, were received at the palace by Kamehameha V, and were entertained at Queen Emma's cottage in Nuuanu Valley. The chromolithograph plates include 2 views of Hawaii and a frontispiece portrait of Queen Emma with a facsimile of her signature and the date June 22, 1870.
