Two types of experiments were carried out to study the influence ofturbulence in dust-air flame propagation. In the first case, a freelypropagating dust-air flame was studied in a vertical tube filled with apresuspended dust-air cloud. In the second case, the influence ofturbulence was assessed on the burning rate of a dust-air mixture in closedvessels. Concurrently, experiments were carried out on the influence ofturbulence on the burning rate of cornstarch-air explosions in closed vessels, on the lean flammability limits of gaseous fuel-dust-air mixtures, and on flame quenching in mixtures of cornstarch, aluminum and coal dustswith air.
