Contiguous to the parish of Whalley on the South, this country assumes, from the very boundary, a new character and complexion, of which the environs of Clitheroe alone partake in the former district. The Deanery. Of Craven extends about thirty miles Southward from the sources of the Ribble and W'harf, and the interval between those rivers includes the first twenty miles in the course of the Are.
