Book Description

Research Paper (postgraduate) from the year 2013 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: 3.49, Universiti Tenaga Nasional, language: English, abstract: The purpose of this research is foreseeing the impact on KTMB’s future earnings against other public transportation in Malaysia. It is done for the sake of future developments of KTMB. The scope of study is to create a model that showed the impact on KTMB’s future earnings when other public transportation rises in its services. The model pre-determined the impact that might or might not influence the future earnings of KTMB in the future period. Design/methodology/approach The researcher took heavily other’s opinion on KTMB’s services and their shift of usage when other public transportations are available in the same routes. A pilot test was done to see the model and its impact for Subang Jaya’s passengers. The researcher thought on enhancing the questionnaire for direct yet thorough answer in the future. Findings From their opinion, a very high number of passengers are willing to shift their usage from KTMB towards BRT and LRT. BRT stopped at another KTMB junction in Sunway pyramid, thus it won’t harm the earning of KTMB. However, LRT will direct them to the nearest LRT station that directed to KL without the needs of KTMB. So far, KTMB has been the sole transportation for people from Klang, Subang Jaya and Sunway to KL. Research limitations/implications Every research will have some limitation that hinders the best findings. In this case, it will be the time allocated for the research. It will be done in short-period of time as every research has their deadline. It is probable the results might be different in future years. Originality/value – As it is a model created by the researcher, it is highly original in its concept. Although the previous authors were discussed for their theories and hypothesis, this paper showed slightly different things in the model that highly probable to affect the future earning of a corporation.

Transforming Urban Transport

Book Description

Transforming Urban Transport brings into focus the origins and implementation pathways of significant urban transport innovations that have recently been adopted in major, democratically governed world cities that are seeking to advance sustainability aims. It documents how proponents of new transportation initiatives confronted a range of administrative, environmental, fiscal, and political obstacles by using a range of leadership skills, technical resources, and negotiation capacities to move a good idea from the drawing board to implementation. The book's eight case studies focus on cities of great interest across the globe--Los Angeles, Mexico City, New York, Paris, San Francisco, Seoul, Stockholm, and Vienna--many of which are known for significant mayor leadership and efforts to rescale power from the nation to the city. The cases highlight innovations likely to be of interest to transport policy makers from all corners, such as strengthening public transportation services, vehicle and traffic management measures, repurposing roads and other urban spaces away from their initial function as vehicle travel corridors, and turning sidewalks and city streets into more pedestrian-friendly places for walking, cycling, and leisure. Aside from their transformative impacts in transportation terms, many of the policy innovations examined here have altered planning institutions, public-private sector relations, civil society commitments, and governance mandates in the course of implementation. In bringing these cases to the fore, Transforming Urban Transport advances understanding of the conditions under which policy interventions can expand institutional capacities and governance mandates, particularly linked to urban sustainability. As such, it is an essential contribution to larger debates about what it takes to make cities more environmentally sustainable and the types of strategies and tactics that best advance progress on these fronts in both the short- and the long-term.

The Dynamics of Asian Labour Markets

Book Description

Asia has undergone rapid economic transformation over the past two decades. Despite its constant economic growth, the 1997-98 Asian financial crisis and the resulting surge in unemployment highlighted the vulnerability of national systems that base development solely on economic growth. This book fills a major research gap by exploring the nature, dynamics and functioning of Asian labour markets in eight major Asian economies, including Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore, China, Vietnam, India and Malaysia. It examines the type of labour markets that exist in Asia; how they have responded to globalisation; and how flexible they are to changing social and economic conditions. The book analyses how the current transformation has impacted on the key parties, such as employers, employees, trade unions, governments, organisations and society as a whole, and considers the likely future trends and developments in Asian labour markets.

Transaction Cost Management

Book Description

All organizations, institutions, business processes, markets and strategies have one aim in common: the reduction of transaction costs. This aim is pursued relentlessly in practice, and has been perceived to bring about drastic changes, especially in the recent global market and the cyber economy. This book analyzes and describes “transactions” as a model, on the basis of which organizations, institutions and business processes can be appropriately shaped. It tracks transaction costs to enable a scientific approach instead of a widely used “state-of-the-art” approach, working to bridge the gap between theory and practice. This open access book analyzes and describes “transactions” as a model...
