The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 71

Book Description

Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 71: June 17, 1909 Moralists and students of human nature are agreed that most vices are close kindred. 'users of tobacco are often users of liquor and other stimulants. It would be a rare thing to find a user of tobacco Who is not a user of intoxicating drinks or some stimulating drug. Those who profane the name of Deity are in most cases lax in morals in other ways, so that we may safely conclude that all evil has a common source, the evil that destroys the mind as well as the evil that destroys the body. The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 71

Book Description

Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 71: November 4, 1909 The first passage of Scripture quoted under the belief-alone theory in this article, is quite plainly but the introduction of the principle of faith as a necessary factor in the plan of salvation, for in the twenty-second verse of the same chapter, we read: After these things came Jesus and his disciples into the land of Judea, and there he tarried with them, and baptized. Again in the same chapter, verses three and five, it is recorded: Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit he cannot enter into the Kingdom of God. Add to these important sayings, Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven. The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 71: July 15, 1909 (Classic Reprint)

Book Description

Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 71: July 15, 1909 Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. (matt. 4: This is a strong refutation of the claims made by some idle talkers that only a part of the Lord's teaching need be heeded. Those who hang on the words, the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin, ignore the fact that Christ did not teach the entire gospel plan every time he Opened His month. He suited His words to the occasion. For instance, when He came to John the Baptist and requested baptism at his hands, He taught only, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfill all righteousness. (matt 3: Those words cannot by any reasonable stretch of the imagination be interpreted to mean that the one act or ordinance of baptism is sufficient to fulfill all righteousness. This one act cannot be left undone in the fulfillment of all righteousness; it is necessary along with every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. In this passage we have additional light upon the words of John, But if we walk in the light as he is in the light the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. Christ died for our sins, it is true, and redeemed us from the results of the Fall, doing for us that which we could not do for our selves, but having done that much He expects that we shall take advantage of the light which He brought into the world, and work out our own salvation as He has pointed out the way. Without faith it is impossible to please him, for he that cometh to God must believe that he is and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. God is no respecter of persons and is to be found by all, the rich as well as the poor, the great and the small, the saint and the sinner, if they will only seek Him in the right spirit, believing that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him. But, how shall we go about seeking him? The earnest inquirer asks. The Holy Scriptures give the key: If any man lack wisdom, let him ask of God, who giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. And again: If any man will do the will of the Father he shall know of the doctrine. Seek wisdom of the Lord according to the admonition of the Apostle James and when God sends the light do not ignore it, no matter where it comes from. Do not be guilty of the idle words that many have uttered in these days, Can any good come from the Remember the foolish words of those people in former times who said, Can any good thing come out of Nazareth? The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 71

Book Description

Excerpt from The Latter-Day Saints' Millennial Star, Vol. 71: September 23, 1909 In a former communication to the Star attention was called to the manifestation of God's power in preserving Joseph Smith from some deadly pitfalls that lay in his course as the inspired founder of this Church. The remarks in this paper direct our thoughts to the aspect of the case when we look at Joseph Smith as an alleged impostor. Those things that would be deadly pitfalls and fatal to this work if it were not true, are just so many situations created purposely by the Almighty, or seized upon by Him as occasion arose, to show forth His might in the preservation of this Church as its guardian, and its extrication from those apparent pitfalls in so many instances are just the same number of pledges of its divinity which He has given to the world. He who preserved this work from falling into the pitfalls of death on one hand, and who has brought it safely through many others more deadly still if possible, is Divine. The good ship, Zion, has been safely steered through many a rocky sea that we all may know who it is that stands with sleepless eye at the helm. But when Jesus was baptized and had come out of the water, 10 the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: and lo a voice from heaven, saying, this is my beloved son, in whom I am well pleased. That hour John knew the Redeemer and he bore record that He was the Son of God. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
