Book Description
Escaping a religion is one thing, but overcoming it— the lingering thoughts, the mental scars, the chastised parts that can’t move you out of that dark corner— is a monumentous journey. The days pass and sometimes it seems like you can’t ever stop looking back, or feeling the pain of the shards still scattered and struck within you. How do we come to discover love, truth, acceptance, beauty, happiness, when we were fed fake versions of all those things? I drank from the cup, but this book was my parasite cleanse. We can learn, slowly, to move our bodies again, and give ourselves what we need. Let those thoughts spill out, before they fester, and collect back the parts of you that you were taught to throw out or shove down. You’ve already done the hardest part by looking to the other side of the fence. There’s no more reason to be afraid, so here we learn to find how beautiful the world actually is, without a ‘god’ whispering in our ear. Through this poetry, we will turn our bodies around, and climb over that fence together. No matter how broken and painful the pathway is, we have the power to break through.
