These six volumes present the results of the census of 1841, compared with that of 1831 (1845-6). This Irish gazetteer provides statistical and factual information on the counties, parishes, islands, towns, and villages, and also on each of the four provinces, on all the baronies, principal mountains, headlands, and bays, on all the fishing harbours, on all the rivers, on the principal lakes and rivulets, bogs, mines and mineral districts, all village with over 20 houses and many with fewer. Taken together the entries form an encylopaedia of 19th-century Ireland and its people.
