Excerpt from The Practical Use of Meteorological Reports: And Weather-Maps The office Division of Telegrams and Reports for the Benefit of Commerce is organized for the preparation, receipt, and use of these reports. At every station three observations are taken daily, at the same moment of actual (not local) time for all stations, by the Observer Sergeants of the Signal Service. The reports are im mediately telegraphed to the office of the Chief Signal Officer at Washington. By a carefully arranged system of telegraphic operation, copies of the full reports of all stations thus transmitted to 'washington, or of portions of them, are sent at the same time to many of the Signal Service stations in principal cities and towns.
