This volume contains selected famous speeches and orations of Daniel Webster, to illustrate his genius and character as a lawyer, statesman, Senator, negotiator, patriot, and citizen. Included is Webster's argument, at the age of 36 years, before the Supreme Court in the famous Dartmouth College case. That case placed him in the front ranks of constitutional lawyers in the nation. The "Reply to Hayne" speech is also included, given on the "Foot's resolution" in the Senate in 1830, and is probably one of the greatest masterpieces of eloquence in oratory.
