Stars in the Sky

Book Description

"In all of the stories about aviation and its history, the stories of the first African American stewardesses have been left untold and unknown. We first took to the skies when flying was glamorous and exclusive, when little girls dreamt of being stewardesses, models, or movie stars. We rubbed elbows with the elite and traveled the world when few others could. We flew as pioneers in a global society long before the times of the Internet and globalizaiton. We also kept our heads high, facing down racial prejudice and discrimination. We lived as stars of the sky. I was one of the first African American stewardesses for Delta Air Lines, and I worked alongside other pioneers for almost thrity-five years as co-adventureres and friends. This book tells my story and theirs."--Author's notes.

Book Description

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • A powerful thriller about the ways an entire life can change in one night: A flight attendant wakes up in the wrong hotel, in the wrong bed, with a dead man—and no idea what happened. • Don't miss the acclaimed HBO Max series! Cassandra Bowden is no stranger to hungover mornings. She's a binge drinker, her job with the airline making it easy to find adventure, and the occasional blackouts seem to be inevitable. She lives with them, and the accompanying self-loathing. When she awakes in a Dubai hotel room, she tries to piece the previous night back together, counting the minutes until she has to catch her crew shuttle to the airport. She quietly slides out of bed, careful not to aggravate her already pounding head, and looks at the man she spent the night with. She sees his dark hair. His utter stillness. And blood, a slick, still wet pool on the crisp white sheets. Afraid to call the police—she's a single woman alone in a hotel room far from home—Cassie begins to lie. She lies as she joins the other flight attendants and pilots in the van. She lies on the way to Paris as she works the first class cabin. She lies to the FBI agents in New York who meet her at the gate. Soon it's too late to come clean-or face the truth about what really happened back in Dubai. Could she have killed him? If not, who did? Set amid the captivating world of those whose lives unfold at forty thousand feet, The Flight Attendant unveils a spellbinding story of memory, of the giddy pleasures of alcohol and the devastating consequences of addiction, and of murder far from home. Fly Girl: A Memoir

Book Description

An entertaining and fascinating memoir of “gifted storyteller” (People) Ann Hood’s adventurous years as a TWA flight attendant. In 1978, in the tailwind of the golden age of air travel, flight attendants were the epitome of glamor and sophistication. Fresh out of college and hungry to experience the world—and maybe, one day, write about it—Ann Hood joined their ranks. After a grueling job search, Hood survived TWA’s rigorous Breech Training Academy and learned to evacuate seven kinds of aircraft, deliver a baby, mix proper cocktails, administer oxygen, and stay calm no matter what the situation. In the air, Hood found both the adventure she’d dreamt of and the unexpected realities of life on the job. She carved chateaubriand in the first-class cabin and dined in front of the pyramids in Cairo, fended off passengers’ advances and found romance on layovers in London and Lisbon, and walked more than a million miles in high heels. She flew through the start of deregulation, an oil crisis, massive furloughs, and a labor strike. As the airline industry changed around her, Hood began to write—even drafting snatches of her first novel from the jump-seat. She reveals how the job empowered her, despite its roots in sexist standards. Packed with funny, moving, and shocking stories of life as a flight attendant, Fly Girl captures the nostalgia and magic of air travel at its height, and the thrill that remains with every takeoff.

Life Story of a Flight Attendant

Book Description

This is a story of a flight attendant who works very hardsometimes more than forty hours a weekfor one of the biggest airlines in the world. The stories written here are mostly from her day-to-day life and work. However, the characters in this book are not real, and any resemblance to real persons is purely coincidental. She grew up as one of the five girls in their house. She was the prettiest among them, and that caused certain jealousy among other sisters and sometimes became a problem for her. All the sisters had one common talent that they shared. Constantly and perfectly lying was an everyday, natural behavior. Sometimes, they had to lie to survive the moment or to get what they needed or wanted. When she was growing, her biggest problem was her father. Her father, for some reason unbeknownst to her, was much more rough on her than on the other sisters. He was a ruthless and violent man. He had no mercy when he began to beat his daughters. She had never known why she was being punished, and he never knew how much it hurt her. This propelled her to other mennot for any other purpose but to catch the opportunity to punish those men just like her father punished her. She did this in the form of taking their money, lying to them, leaving them with empty hope, cheating, and if it took having sex with them, she did not hesitate. It was not for her own pleasure of sex, but her pleasure was coming from her attempt to punish the men. Some of her behavior may be perceived as immoral, unethical, or not acceptable; however, for her, any transgression had a specific mission to punish men. Every time she accomplished this, it was a slap to her fathers face, or she was preventing his slap to her face. Many of these actions were placed in her subconscious, driving her without thinking and planning. She does it just because she can do it. Her job and lifestyle gave her ample opportunity to find a man and achieve her goal of punishing them. She used her beauty, charm, sex appeal, and whatever else it took to get her next prey. Sometimes she took money from them, sometimes she had sex with them, and sometimes she led them to a finish line that never existed.
