Costa Picazo recopila, traduce y anota las poesías de guerra de cinco poetas ingleses (Edmund Blunden, Robert Graves, Wilfred Owen, Isaac Rosenberg y Siegfried Sassoon) y un grupo de mujeres poetas (Marian Allen, Nora Bomford, Vera Brittain, Eleanor Farjeon, Charlotte Mew, May Sinclair y Elizabeth Underhill, entre otras). Tierra de nadie es un libro acerca de una de las guerras más terribles del siglo XX, en la que más de setenta y cinco millones de hombres fueron movilizados y más de la mitad resultaron muertos o desaparecidos. Es un libro sobre el horror de la guerra y, a pesar del espanto, sobre poesía. La Gran Guerra fue una contienda de trincheras, de dos frentes enemigos separados por un vacío que no era de nadie. Las profundas excavaciones, situadas en lados opuestos, prote-gidas por alambre de púa y ametralladoras, estaban separadas por una extensión de terreno infértil, que la lluvia y el defectuoso sistema de desagües convertían en lodazal. Las trincheras eran un claro ejemplo de deterioro y putrefacción. Allí se amontonaban los vivos y los muertos, estos últimos absorbidos por el fango y todos en medio de las ratas y el hedor. En ese contexto, cinco poetas ingleses (Edmund Blunden, Robert Graves, Wilfred Owen, Isaac Rosenberg y Siegfried Sassoon) y un grupo de mujeres poetas (Marian Allen, Nora Bomford, Vera Brittain, Eleanor Farjeon, Charlotte Mew, May Sinclair y Elizabeth Underhill, entre otras) demostraron que el espíritu humano sobrevive al horror y es capaz de afirmarse en medio del caos, y eternizarse.

LatinAsian Cartographies examines how Latina/o and Asian American writers provide important counter-narratives to the stories of racial encroachment that have come to characterize twenty-first century dominant discourses on race. Susan Thananopavarn contends that the Asian American and Latina/o presence in the United States, although often considered marginal in discourses of American history and nationhood, is in fact crucial to understanding how national identity has been constructed historically and continues to be constructed in the present day. Thananopavarn creates a new “LatinAsian” view of the United States that emphasizes previously suppressed aspects of national history, including imperialism, domestic racism during World War II, Cold War operations in Latin America and Asia, and the politics of borders in an age of globalization. The essays of Roberto Bolano in English at last. Between Parentheses collects most of the newspaper columns and articles Bolano wrote during the last five years of his life, as well as the texts of some of his speeches and talks and a few scattered prologues. “Taken together,” as the editor Ignacio Echevarría remarks in his introduction, they provide “a personal cartography of the writer: the closest thing, among all his writings, to a kind of fragmented ‘autobiography.’” Bolano’s career as a nonfiction writer began in 1998, the year he became famous overnight for The Savage Detectives; he was suddenly in demand for articles and speeches, and he took to this new vocation like a duck to water. How an overlooked film industry became a cinematic force The first book in English dedicated to the study of Central American film, this volume explores the main trends, genres, and themes that define this emerging industry. The seven nations of the region have seen an unprecedented growth in film production during the twenty-first century with the creation of over 200 feature-length films compared with just one in the 1990s. This volume provides a needed overview of one of the least explored cinemas in the world. In these essays, various scholars of film and cultural studies from around the world provide insights into the continuities and discontinuities between twentieth- and twenty-first-century cinematic production on the Isthmus. They discuss how political, social, and environmental factors, along with new production modes and aesthetics, have led to a corpus of films that delve into issues of the past and present such as postwar memory, failed revolutions, trauma, migration, popular culture, minority populations, and gender disparities.
