This is a textbook for the standard undergraduate econometrics course. Its only prerequisites are a semester course in statistics and one in differential calculus. Arthur Goldberger, an outstanding researcher and teacher of econometrics, views the subject as a tool of empirical inquiry rather than as a collection of arcane procedures. The central issue in such inquiry is how one variable is related to one or more others. Goldberger takes this to mean How does the average value of one variable vary with one or more others? and so takes the population conditional mean function as the target of empirical research. The structure of the book is similar to that of Goldberger's graduate-level textbook, A Course in Econometrics, but the new book is richer in empirical material, makes no use of matrix algebra, and is primarily discursive in style. A great strength is that it is both intuitive and formal, with ideas and methods building on one another until the text presents fairly complicated ideas and proofs that are often avoided in undergraduate econometrics. To help students master the tools of econometrics, Goldberger provides many theoretical and empirical exercises and, on an accompanying diskette, real micro-and macroeconomic data sets. The data sets deal with earnings and education, money demand, firm investment, stock prices, compensation and productivity, and the Phillips curve. THE DATA SETS CAN BE FOUND HERE.

Introduce your students to how empirical researchers actually think about and apply econometric methods with the practical, professional approach in Wooldridge's INTRODUCTORY ECONOMETRICS: A MODERN APPROACH, 5E. Unlike traditional texts, this book's unique presentation demonstrates how econometrics can be used to empirically study and answer questions across a variety of disciplines. A reflection of how econometric instruction has evolved, INTRODUCTORY ECONOMETRICS is organized around the type of data being analyzed with a systematic approach, where assumptions are introduced only as they are needed to obtain a certain result. This approach simplifies the exposition and makes the text's material easier for students to comprehend. Packed with timely, relevant applications the text emphasizes examples that have implications for policy or provide evidence for or against economic theories. More than 100 intriguing data sets are now available in six formats for your teaching flexibility. A wealth of new and revised instructor resources, written by the author, is provided at no cost to the instructor. The Instructor's Manual with Solutions contains answers to all problems and exercises, teaching tips on how to present the material in each chapter and also sources for each of the data files, with many suggestions on how to use them on problem sets, exams, and term papers. For the first time ever, a new Test Bank has been created to aid instructors as they teach the course. PowerPoint slides and Scientific Word slides are also new to this edition. The updated Data Set Handbook is also available to help instructors present the latest emerging developments in the field. Give your students a full understanding of how econometrics is genuinely useful for answering questions in business, policy evaluation, and forecasting environments with INTRODUCTORY ECONOMETRICS: A MODERN APPROACH, 5E. This book breaks away from the standard microeconomics text for management students in numerous ways. Some of its relevant and useful features are as below: For the benefit of students, definition, taxonomy, and trivial memorization have been consciously de-emphasized Graphical and logical derivations are supplemented by economic intuition in simple-to-understand English, though the rigor of algebraic treatment is retained Strong emphasis on concepts, their explanations, and understanding Numerous hypothetical real-life examples, largely pertaining to India Two completely new chapters, missing from other textbooks in India, viz., Demand for Assets and Game Theory and Economic Applications To test the understanding of the material, each chapter ends with a lot of questions emphasizing on the applications of the concepts and definitions
