August Moon

Book Description

Maybe it's time for me to leave this crazy town, hightail it back to Minneapolis, and become a cat-collecting, fist-shaking, asexual English professor... Furious after being stood up by local hottie Johnny Leeson, Mira decides to abandon Battle Lake, Minnesota, where the women are churchgoers, the men like to hunt, and the body count is above average. But when a cheerleader bites the dust, Mira loiters long enough to snoop. Mira is highly suspicious of the New Millennium Bible Camp, a disturbing place with a Stepford Wives meets Hee Haw vibe. Before ditching Battle Lake, Mira is hell-bent on confronting her own demons and catching a killer. August Moon

Book Description

"I wonder if this qualifies as burnout?" Samantha Paige would never have believed she would get fired from her position as Critical Care Coordinator for the hospital. Of course, she never considered the possibility that she would sock a pompous, inept surgeon in the puss, either. But, that's exactly what had happened. Desperate for some peace and quiet, she flees to her loving Uncle Rufus and the beautiful farm nestled in the hills south of Nashville near the historic town of Franklin, Tennessee, where she had spent the happiest moments of her life. Upon her arrival, she comes face to face with TJ Carter, the handsome, driven Civil War historian. He is president of the Civil War battlefield preservation association and is fighting to protect the remains of the Franklin Battlefield from commercial development. Her uncle's farm is the key piece of land wanted by both sides. What neither she nor TJ recognize is the lengths to which the unscrupulous developer, and the nefarious men backing him, are prepared to go to get what they want. The attraction between Sam and TJ is immediate and powerful, and the last thing that Sam thinks she wants or needs. She struggles to resist TJ's assaults on her resistance. As the passion she feels for him spirals out of her control, she finds herself fighting at TJ's side not only for the land, but also for their very lives.

Feminist Theory and the Aesthetics Within

Book Description

This book re-examines feminist theory through the lens of South Asian aesthetic conventions drawn from iconography, philosophy, Indo-Islamic mystic folk traditions and poetics. It discusses alternate fluid representations of gender and intersectional identities and interrelationships in some dominant as well as non-elite Indic aesthetic traditions. The book explores pre-Vedic sculptural and Indus terracotta iconographies, the classical aesthetic philosophy of rasa, mystic folk poetry of Bhakti and Sufi movements, and ghazal and Urdu poetics to understand the political dimension of feminist theory in India as well as its implications for trans-continental feminist aesthetics across South Asia and the West. By interlinking prehistoric, classical, medieval, premodern and contemporary aesthetic and literary traditions of South Asia through a gendered perspective, the book bridges a major gap in feminist theory. An interdisciplinary work, this book will be useful for scholars and researchers of feminist theory, women’s studies, gender studies, art and aesthetics, philosophy, literature, cultural studies, queer studies, sexuality studies, political studies, sociology and South Asian studies.

The Far Side of the Moon

Book Description

The far side of the Moon, also called the "dark side of the Moon" was unknown to humanity until the Luna and Lunar Orbiter pictures were returned to Earth. This wonderful book contains beautiful photographs and newly-assembled mosaic images of the far side of the Moon, cleaned of transmission, imaging stripes and processing artifacts by today’s computer technology. Byrne’s superb analysis documents the appearance of the features of the far side with beautiful pictures from Lunar Orbiter. Until now, the far side Lunar Orbiter photos have only been available with strong reconstruction lines, but appear here for the first time as complete photographs, unmarred by imaging and processing artifacts.
