Technological advancements have the potential to influence therapeutic methods in rehabilitation, including occupational therapy. Technologies such as video, computer, and virtual reality games simulate activities in a safe and controlled virtual environment and can be used in conjunction with the conventional therapy. The primary purpose of this study was to systematically review the literature related to the use and effectiveness of interactive video, computer, and virtual reality games in rehabilitation. Forty studies, only two of which were related to occupational therapy, were found that met the specified inclusion criteria and were appraised for this systematic review. Analysis of the studies reflected some positive evidence for the use and effectiveness of interactive technology in rehabilitation. However, many design and methodological issues compromised the results of the studies. Rehabilitation professionals, including occupational therapists, need to conduct well-designed studies that will add to the evidence-based practice.
