Book Description

Excerpt from History of Oswego County, New York: With Illustrations and Biographical Sketches of Some of Its Prominent Men and Pioneers Such were the owners of Oswego County when Champlain made his unfortunate raid, in 1615. There were, so far as we are aware, no permanent villages of the Iroquois within the county limits, but parties of them frequently erected temporary wigwams for the purpose of fishing in its rivers or hunting in its forests. The greater portion of the county was considered as belonging to. The Onondagas, but the One-{alas possessed all the borders of the lake which bears their name.
