It is the constant trial of every good housekeeper how to provide a variety in the daily meals. There is nothing that tries her temper or taxes her ingenuity more. It is a happy idea to provide a recipe for a daily breakfast and dessert throughout the year, since it is just here where variety can be the more easily obtained. Most cookery books devote themselves to the elaboration of dinner as being the principal meal of the day. It is a wise departure from this plan to give the housekeeper a variety of desserts to choose from since after all the dinner itself is not so difficult to provide. A constant change of desserts gives a finishing touch to the dinner and is the mark of a good housekeeper. We have looked over many of the recipes given in this volume and can certify from experience that they are workable. There are dishes which are new to us, but an examination of the recipes makes us believe that they will be found practicable as well as tasty. One advantage of these daily recipes is that due attention has been given for things that are in season and are within the reach of the ordinary well-to=do household.
