This manual provides an outline of the process and methodology involved in the preparation of a program for hospital construction. A schedule for an entire project should allow for variances in the order, length of time, and need for each step. The steps involve: The preplanning schedule, determination of community need for health care, evaluation of conditions, e.G. Seismic hazards, a demographic survey of the service area, a statement of goals and objectives related to community needs, a capital financing plan, an operational program to meet the goals and objectives, a master development plan, cost analysis, a detailed space program for the first stage of construction, an equipment list, design of the first stage, construction of the first stage, and evaluation of operation and feedback to the preplanning schedule and master plan. Services are discussed according to subject area, outpatient services, nursing services, diagnostic and treatment services, supply services, administrative and general services, and housekeeping, maintenance, and engineering services and systems.
