A Distributed Object-Oriented Database Application Design

Book Description

The purpose of this study is to analyze and develop a distributed object-oriented database management system (DOODBMS) application to support parallel software development of the Parallel Algorithms and Applications Group (PAAG) at AFIT. By following the software lifecycle of object-oriented paradigm, this thesis investigation is intended to generate requirements analysis, design, implementation, user interface design and implementation, and integration of the database application with the user interface. ITASCA, an existing DOODBMS platform, has been chosen to prototype the application for its distribution functionalities and object-oriented modeling power. The user interface of the database application is based on X-window OSF/Motif front-end system for its efficiency. Various operations of this distributed database include: retrieve information in the database, modify data at the local site, look up information of publications of libraries, etc. The user may access each local computer through graphical user interface without knowing the query language constructs of the DOODBMS platform ... Database management system (DBMS), Object-oriented database management system (OODBMS), Distributed object-oriented database management system (DOO-DBMS), User interface application design, Motif user interface design.

Object-oriented Modeling and Design for Database Applications

Book Description

Written from a software engineering perspective, this book shows programmers & developers how to build object-oriented database applications for distributed & client/server environments using the newest update of the OMT methodology & UML.

Object-Oriented Database System

Book Description

Computer Science Workbench is a monograph series which will provide you with an in depth working knowledge of current developments in computer technology. Every volume in this series will deal with a topic of importance in computer science and elaborate on how you yourself can build systems related to the main theme. You will be able to develop a variety of systems, including computer software tools, computer graphics, computer animation, database management systems, and computer-aided design and manufacturing systems. Computer Science Workbench represents an important new contribution in the field of practical computer technology. Tosiyasu L. Kunii Preface The goal of this book is to give concrete answers to questions such as what object oriented databases are, why they are needed, how they are implemented, and how they are applied, by describing a research prototype object-oriented database system called Jasmine. That is, this book is aimed at creating a consistent view to object-oriented databases. The contents of this book are directly based on the results of the Jasmine project conducted at Fujitsu Laboratories, Ltd. The book is a polished version of my doctoral dissertation, which includes research papers which I have authored and published.

Distributed Object-oriented Data-systems Design

Book Description

This guide deals with the design and implementation of advanced information systems. It covers object-oriented data management systems, distributed environments, and advanced user interfaces i.e. those integrating text, pictures, video and sound. This book also focuses on migration issues involved in going from relational database management systems to object-oriented database management issues, and discusses the advantages/disadvantages of both types of systems. The authors have developed a unique Frame-Object Analysis Methodology for advanced modelling. It also shows the reader what constitutes an advanced distributed information system and how to design and implement one. The handbook will benefit database analysts, database administrators, programmers and members of technical staff interested in data models. Andeleigh is the author of UNIX SYSTEM ARCHITECTURE.

Object-oriented Database Design Clearly Explained

Book Description

This book will help you make sense of the conflicting theories and vendor claims about object-oriented database systems."--BOOK JACKET.

Object-oriented Databases

Book Description

A comprehensive introduction to object-oriented concepts as applied to databases and knowledge-based systems. The principles of semantic data modelling are described in depth and this is followed by a comprehensive description of the application of object-oriented techniques in this area. Separate chapters are devoted to implementation aspects such as persistence and concurrency.

Distributed Object Management

Book Description

This book presents the most current information on distributed object management; a synthesis between systems and object orientation. It will be of interest to researchers in the field.
