Book Description

Two human siblings, Alexis and Varren, sixteen and seventeen years old, live in a mythical land called Ithaca, where six groups dominate the world: elves, dwarves, gnomes, were-creatures, dragons, and humans. The siblings lead a normal life until it is revealed to them that a rebellion exists against the humans' tyrannical ruler, the Queen, and they are handed a book that can transport anything through time, making it the most powerful object in Ithaca. Alexis, Varren, and their grandfather Icarus must travel across the land to reach Karakorum, the rebels' base, to deliver the Book of Time. Along the way, they meet allies and enemies, see things they would never have dreamed of, and experience love, anguish, exhilaration, wounds, and death. The two are loyal, brave, determined, and smart, and Varren possesses a form of magic called Persuasion, while Alexis possesses something even more potent and mysterious. But when there seem to be no mysteries left, when they finally reach Karakorum, Alexis and Varren hear something that would have been better left buried ... My name is Zhishuai Chen, but you can call me Charlie. I was born in China, raised in the U.S. (Boston), and at the time of this writing, I am in the seventh grade. This is my first novel, and to the readers, I say thank you. I would be honored to go on a fishing trip with each and every one of you. Publisher's website: http: //sbprabooks.com/ZhishuaiChen

Touched

Book Description

Normalizing the Balkans argues that, following the historical patterns of colonial psychoanalysis and psychiatry in British India and French Africa as well as Nazi psychoanalysis and psychiatry, the psychoanalysis and psychiatry of the Balkans during the 1990s deployed the language of psychic normality to represent the space of the Other as insane geography and to justify its military, or its symbolic, takeover. Freud's self-analysis, influenced by his journeys through the Balkans, was a harbinger of orientalism as articulated by Said. However, whereas Said intended Orientalism to be a critique of the historical construction of the Orient by, and in relation to, the West, for Freud it constituted a medical and psychic truth. Freud's self-orientalization became the structural foundation of psychoanalytic language, which had tragic consequences in the Balkans when a demonic conjunction developed between the ingrained self-orientalizing structure of psychoanalysis and the Balkans' own propensity for self-orientalization. In the 1990s, in the ex-Yugoslav cultural space, psychoanalytic language was used by the Serb psychiatrist-politicians Drs. Raškovic and Karadžic as conceptual justification for inter-ethnic violence. Kristeva's discourse on abject geography and Žižek's conceptualization of the Balkans as the Real have done violence to the region in an intellectual register on behalf of universal subjectivity. Following Gramsci's and Said's """"discourse-geography" Bjelic transmutes the psychoanalytic topos of the """"imaginary geography" of the Balkans into the geopolitics inherent in psychoanalytic language itself, and takes to task the practices of normalization that underpin the Balkans' politics of madness.

Will Camron and Gemma live to fight another day and explore the growing attraction between them, or will ancient secrets and bitter rivalries end their bid for freedom? This is the eighth book in the Badari Warriors world (and the seventh book in the numbered series) and each novel has a satisfying Happy for Now ending for the hero and heroine, not a cliffhanger. Some overarching issues do remain unresolved in each book since this is an ongoing series but romance always wins the day in my novels! The Stardust Thief

Book Description

Inspired by stories from One Thousand and One Nights, this book weaves together the gripping tale of a legendary smuggler, a cowardly prince, and a dangerous quest across the desert to find a legendary, magical lamp. Neither here nor there, but long ago . . . Loulie al-Nazari is the Midnight Merchant: a criminal who, with the help of her jinn bodyguard, hunts and sells illegal magic. When she saves the life of a cowardly prince, she draws the attention of his powerful father, the sultan, who blackmails her into finding an ancient lamp that has the power to revive the barren land—at the cost of sacrificing all jinn. With no choice but to obey or be executed, Loulie journeys with the sultan's oldest son to find the artifact. Aided by her bodyguard, who has secrets of his own, they must survive ghoul attacks, outwit a vengeful jinn queen, and confront a malicious killer from Loulie's past. And, in a world where story is reality and illusion is truth, Loulie will discover that everything—her enemy, her magic, even her own past—is not what it seems, and she must decide who she will become in this new reality.
