The first thing the reader should do in practice is to see that all the machinery be well balanced and all shafts as true as possible; if the machines are not so, there is a continual shaking and vibrating of the machines, which will soon run them down and add to the work of the engine. The blowing-room machinery should be kept well oiled, clean, and in proper order, on account of the high speed; the same with the cardroom and spinning machinery.
