Excerpt from A Manual of Diseases of the Nervous System, Vol. 1: Diseases of the Nerves and Spinal Cord For most useful and able assistance in the revision of the later portion of the book, I have to thank Dr. Risien Russell. The Diagnosis of Diseases of the Nervous System

Book Description

Excerpt from The Diagnosis of Diseases of the Nervous System: A Manual for Students and Practitioners The propriety of including in a work of so elementary a nature a short chapter on the examination of the patient will hardly be questioned. The illustrations of diagnosis which are given in the eighth chapter are designed to aid the student in the application of the methods of diagnosis to actual cases of disease. Nervous Diseases

Book Description

Excerpt from Nervous Diseases: Their Description and Treatment: A Manual for Students and Practitioners of Medicine It has been my object to produce a concise, practical book; and should the satisfaction be ever accorded me of knowing that I have made the subjects of Diagnosis and Treatment of Nervous Diseases more simple to my readers than I think they now are, I shall be amply rewarded for the task I have undertaken. I have not considered Insanity, because I believe that this subject deserves much more extended notice than it could possibly receive in a book of this size and kind. I have deemed it advisable to include a short article upon Cerebro Spinal Meningitis, though, by many authorities, it is not regarded, strictly Speaking, as a nervous disease. I think, if for no other reason, its interesting diagnostic relations entitle it to consideration. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Manual of Nervous Diseases and an Introduction to Medical Electricity (Classic Reprint)

Book Description

Excerpt from Manual of Nervous Diseases and an Introduction to Medical Electricity A long experience in clinical teaching has convinced me that the standard works on diseases of the nervous system are little suited to the wants Of the beginner, who is not prepared to profit by the study Of elaborate treatises. This conviction prompted the preparation of the present work, in which I have endeavored to present in a concise manner the established facts and current theories relating to nervous affections. To this end, in addition to the matter furnished by my own Observations, I have freely used the most approved contributions to medical literature that deal with the subjects in hand. A Manual of the Nervous Diseases of Man, Vol. 2 (Classic Reprint)

Book Description

Excerpt from A Manual of the Nervous Diseases of Man, Vol. 2 The diagnosis of spasm of the heart from other conditions, which are associated with irregular movements of the organs, has been rendered much more certain and accurate by the introduction of auscultation and percussion than it used to be. The criteria that have been hitherto considered indicative of spasm, are - the free intervals; the relation borne by the attacks to exercise and rest (whilst palpitations accompanying organic diseases of the heart are increased by exercise, it diminishes those originating in spasm, which is rather likely to commence during rest, and especially after eating and in going to sleep); the combi nation with disturbances of other nervous functions the relief ob tained on improvement of the digestive organs. These indications, however, except the integrity of the heart during the interval, are unsafe we obtain more satisfactorv evidence from the normal extent of the heart, as shown by percussion, from the cessation of the bellows-murmur when the circulation is calmed, from the co existence of a similar murmur in the large arteries, from its being limited to the aortic orifice, and from the absence of harsh, loud, morbid sounds at this and other parts of the heart.
