In the effort to make the book as serviceable as possible, it has seemed to him desirable to associate some additional facts with those already offered in the previous edition. He indulges the hope that these and a certain rearrangement of some of the matter will commend themselves especially to those college teachers who have done the author the honor to adopt the book for the use of their classes. He feels that if physicians, pharmacists, and others, who have so generously manifested their favor, determine that the book is of increased value to them because of certain alterations and additions, his efforts will have been most compensatingly fruitful.
