Catacylsm

Book Description

Meet the Krackow, a species so advanced in their star travel they do not concern themselves with ecologically destroying their 'home' planet. Once the planet becomes uninhabitable they simply move on to another pristine jewel in the galaxy's crown. They have just moved in on the Henu planet bringing with them destruction and disease - a disease that threatens the survival of the Henu colony. Arr and Taylor are testing the waters as partners now that Jake is gone. Taylor’s unorthodox winnings from a friendly game of cards prove to be challenging, but ultimately it may be that prize which will be the answer to the Henu colony’s future. The power of love takes on a whole new meaning when the Krackow come face-to-face with someone even their technology cannot surpass.

The Philosophical Foundations of Classical Chinese Medicine

Book Description

This book makes Classical Chinese Medicine (CCM) intelligible to those who are not familiar with the tradition, many of whom may choose to dismiss it off-hand or to assess it negatively) . Keekok Lee uses two related strategies: arguing that all science and therefore medicine cannot be understood without excavating its philosophical presuppositions and showing what those presuppositions are in the case of CCM compared with those of biomedicine. Such excavations enable Lee in turn to demonstrate the following theses: (1) the metaphysical/ontological core of a medical system entails its own methodology, how to understand, diagnose and treat an illness/disease; (2) CCM rests on process-ontology, is Wholist, its general mode of thinking is Contextual-dyadic, its implicit logic is multi-valent, its model of causality is non-linear and multi-factorial; (3) Biomedicine (in the main) rests on thing-ontology and dualism, is Reductionist, its logic is classical bi-valent, its model of causality is linear and monofactorial; (4) hence to condemn CCM as “unscientific”/”pseudo-scientific”/plain “mumbo-jumbo” while privileging Biomedicine as the Gold Standard of scientificity is as absurd as to judge a cat to be inferior to a dog, using the criteria of “goodness” embodied in a dog-show.

In the Spirit of Hegel

Book Description

The Phenomenology of Spirit was Hegel's grandest experiment, changing our vision of the world and the very nature of philosophical enterprise. In this book, Solomon captures the bold and exhilarating spirit, presenting the Phenomenology as a thoroughly personal as well as philosophical work. He begins with a historical introduction, which lays the groundwork for a section-by-section analysis of the Phenomenology. Both the initiated and readers unacquainted with the intricacies of German idealism will find this to be an accessible and exciting introduction to this great philosopher's monumental work.
