William Page Wood, Baron Hatherley, Vol. 1 of 2: With Selections From His Correspondence In the year 1863 Mr. Foss, author of the well-known work entitled the 'Judges of England, with Sketches of their Lives, ' requested Vice-Chancellor Wood to supply him with some notes of his life. The Autobiographical Sketch which forms the introduction to these volumes was written in compliance with this request, and from it Mr. Foss compiled the notice which concludes the last volume of his work published in 1864. The Autobiography breaks off, as will be seen, rather abruptly; and, although it is a careful and accurate record of facts, it does not pretend in any sense to be a finished composition.
