A New Proposal to Measure K^+ -] Pi^+ Nu Nubar

Book Description

For an experimentalist in high energy physics, the most interesting experiments that one should pursue is often well known. The very rare CP violating decay of the kaon into a pion and two neutrinos (both the charged and neutral modes) is such an experiment. We have recently proposed the charged kaon experiment to Fermilab as proposal P966. We present her a general overview of that proposal. The goal is to obtain of order 1000 events in order to confront the expected theoretical calculations and to search for physics beyond the standard model.

Prospects for Measuring K[sup+][r-arrow][pi][sup+][nu][bar[nu] and K[sub L][sup 0][r-arrow][pi][sup 0][nu][bar[nu] at BNL.

Book Description

Rare kaon decay experiments underway or planned for the BNL AGS will yield new and independent determinations of V*[sub ts]V[sub td]. A measurement of B(K[sub L][sup 0][r-arrow][pi][sup 0][nu][bar[nu]]) allows a determination of the imaginary part of this quantity, which is the fundamental CP-violating parameter of the Standard Model, in a uniquely clean manner. Since the measurement of B(K[sup+][r-arrow][pi][sup+][nu][bar[nu]]) determines[vert-bar]V*[sub ts]V[sub td], a complete derivation of the unitarity triangle is facilitated. These results can be compared to high precision data expected to come from the B sector in a number of ways, allowing for unique tests of new physics.

String Theory and the Real World

Book Description

This book attempts to explain why 'string theory' may provide the comprehensive underlying theory that describes and explains our world. It is an enthusiastic view of how compactified string/M-theories (plus data that may be reachable) seem to have the possibilities of leading to a comprehensive underlying theory of particle physics and cosmology, perhaps soon. We are living in a hugely exciting era for science, one during which it may be possible to achieve a real and true understanding of our physical world.

Applications of Fluid Dynamics

Book Description

The book presents high-quality papers presented at 3rd International Conference on Applications of Fluid Dynamics (ICAFD 2016) organized by Department of Applied Mathematics, ISM Dhanbad, Jharkhand, India in association with Fluid Mechanics Group, University of Botswana, Botswana. The main theme of the Conference is "Sustainable Development in Africa and Asia in context of Fluid Dynamics and Modeling Approaches". The book is divided into seven sections covering all applications of fluid dynamics and their allied areas such as fluid dynamics, nanofluid, heat and mass transfer, numerical simulations and investigations of fluid dynamics, magnetohydrodynamics flow, solute transport modeling and water jet, and miscellaneous. The book is a good reference material for scientists and professionals working in the field of fluid dynamics.

Three Centuries; Family Chronicles of Turkey and Egypt

Book Description

The author was the second wife of Sultan Hussein Kamel of Egypt. After her husband ascended the throne in 1914, she became known as Sultana Melek. Born in Istanbul in 1869, she was a Circassian, but unlike many Circassians in the Ottoman era, she was not a slave. Her mother was Princess Nimet Mouhtar. This book describes her family's history and her own life, and gives a window into the life among the upper classes during the Ottoman Empire from the nineteenth to early twentieth centuries.
