Environmental Law: Statutory and Case Supplement, can easily be used with any environmental law casebook on the market. Organizing the statutes by subject matter, rather than their location in the U.S. Code, this supplement introduces the statutes with detailed outlines that highlight their most important provisions. The supplement also includes legislative history timelines that trace the evolution of the statutes by explaining when they were enacted and when their most significant amendments were added. This new edition provides an essential resource for students, teachers, and practitioners of environmental law by including the complete, updated text of the major federal environmental laws and executive orders governing how agencies implement environmental policy. The supplement also includes significant Supreme Court decisions in environmental cases decided during the last three years. New to the 2023-24 Edition: Edited copies of important new Supreme Court decisions addressing the scope of federal authority under the Clean Water Act (Sackett v. EPA), application of the dormant commerce clause to state animal welfare regulation (National Ass’n of Pork Producers v. Ross), and EPA’s authority to use the Clean Air Act to regulate emissions of greenhouse gases (West Virginia v. EPA). A complete updating of the major federal environmental statutes, including substantial amendments to the National Environmental Policy Act made by the June 2023 Fiscal Responsibility Act, and changes made by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. New regulations governing the implementation of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). Professors and students will benefit from: The ability to examine the precise, updated text of the major federal environmental statutes Research tips for locating useful sources of additional information on environmental policy New court decisions released after the publication of the latest casebook edition

The U.S. Ocean Commission Report identified the need for regional ecosystem assessments to support coastal and ocean management. These assessments must provide greater understanding of physical and biological dynamics than assessments at global and national scales can provide but transcend state and local interests. This need and timeliness is apparent for Long Island Sound, where a multi-state regional restoration program is underway for America’s most urbanized estuary. Synthesis of the Long Island Sound ecosystem is needed to integrate knowledge across disciplines and provide insight into understanding and managing pressing issues, such as non-point sources of pollution, coastal development, global climatic change, and invasive species. Currently, there is a need for a comprehensive volume that summarizes the ecological and environmental dynamics and status of Long Island Sound and its myriad ecosystems. It has been 30 years since a comprehensive summary of Long Island Sound was prepared and 50 years since the pioneering work of Gordon Riley. Major advances in estuarine science are providing new insights into these systems, and yet, the condition of many estuaries is in decline in the face of continuing coastal development. There is an opportunity to lay a foundation for integrative coastal observing systems that truly provide the foundation for improved decision-making. This book will provide a key reference of our scientific understanding for work performed over the past three decades and guide future research and monitoring in a dynamic urbanized estuary.

Estuarine Processes, Volume I: Uses, Stresses, and Adaptation to the Estuary provides information pertinent to estuarine processes and focuses on dynamic interactions at several levels of organization. This book presents the strategies to rehabilitate and protect estuaries. Organized into seven parts encompassing 37 chapters, this volume begins with an overview of the alternative ways of attaining the pervasive goals of pollution abatement and estuarine management. This text then discusses the significance of maintaining estuarine environment quality if fisheries are to continue. Other chapters consider the great value of the estuarine zone, which lies in the multiplicity of uses it serves, but herein also lies its vulnerability. This book discusses as well the identification of the major factors regulating phytoplankton productivity and regulating the level of phytoplankton biomass. The final chapter deals with assessing the potential deleterious effects of certain toxicants to penaeid shrimp. This book is a valuable resource for ecologists, environmentalists, and scientists.
