A Practical Medical Dictionary

Book Description

Excerpt from A Practical Medical Dictionary: Of Words Used in Medicine With Their Derivation and Pronunciation, Including Dental, Veterinary, Chemical, Botanical, Electrical, Life Insurance and Other Special Terms The first edition of this work appeared in the spring of 1911, the second in the autumn of 1912, and since that time a new edition has been called for every second year. The kind reception which the medical public has given to the book has been most gratifying and has given the editor courage to persevere in the truly Sisyphean task of a continuous revision, one edition being no sooner published than the collection of new words and new uses of old words begins anew. Although every effort has been made to keep the size of the volume within the limits of the previous editions, the great number of new words and new definitions has necessitated an increase of twenty pages. For this the editor has no apology to offer, for the new matter is good matter and has been added in the interest of those who consult the dictionary.
