A Practical System of Surgery, Vol. 2 (Classic Reprint)

Book Description

Excerpt from A Practical System of Surgery, Vol. 2 The disease here meant to be treated of, is that suppression which is occasioned by collection of urine in the bladder, and an inability, from some accidental cause, to evacuate it. A simple suppression may arise from a disorder in the kidneys; but, as in this case, the affection is quite beyond the reach of chirurgical aid, we do not mean to consider it, as it belongs entirely to the physician to find out a proper remedy. American Practice of Surgery, Vol. 2 of 8

Book Description

Excerpt from American Practice of Surgery, Vol. 2 of 8: A Complete System of the Science and Art of Surgery, by Representative Surgeons of the United States and Canada Leprosy still exists extensively in Mexico. Scattered cases are found here and there among the Gulf States, and it is seen on the Pacific coast in the persons of Chinese and Hawaiian immigrants. Isolated cases are encountered from time to time in all the seaboard cities. Many Norwegian lepers settled in our North western States, but the disease has never shown a tendency to spread there and is rapidly dying out. Leprosy in Louisiana appears to have been introduced either by Acadian immigration in 1758 or, as in the case of Tracadie, directly from northern France, where the disease has not yet entirely died out. A System of Practical Surgery, Vol. 2

Book Description

Excerpt from A System of Practical Surgery, Vol. 2: Surgery of the Neck, Thorax and Spinal Column The wall of a fistula consists of connective tissue arranged concem trically about the lumen. The vessels running in the wall have either a circular or a radiating arrangement, and in some cases circular or longi tudinal striped muscle-fibres as well as cartilage have been Observed. Usually the fistula is of uniform diameter but there are cases, how ever, as Shown by Ribbert and konig, in which several dilatations have given a nodular appearance to the tract. The number Of lumena, as shown by transverse section, may be SO great as to resemble a tubular gland. Branching of the tube is probably due to persistence Of the cleft in more than one place.
