A School Atlas of English History (Classic Reprint)

Book Description

Excerpt from A School Atlas of English History The map of India in 1804 (n o. 54) is taken from one published by the British Government. It is not in the library of the British Museum, but a copy is in the possession of Mr. S. J Owen, who brought it to my notice, and there is another copy in the library of the House of Commons, from which, by permission of Mr. R. F. D. Palgrave, clerk of the House of Commons, a reduced copy is here given. The system of colouring in the original map is, however, too complicated for school purposes, and I have therefore substituted for it the simpler colouring adopted in other maps of India in this volume. I have, however, retained the references as in the original map, for the sake of those who may not have access to the map as originally published. I have given to the British Museum library the tracin g taken for me with the original colouring, so that it may be consulted there by those interested in the matter.
