Excerpt from A Soldier's Story of His Regiment, 61st Georgia: And Incidentally of the Lawton-Gordon-Evans Brigade Army, Northern Virginia I have no recollection of seeing more than two brigades reduced more than ours was. That was Gen. Hays' and Gen. Taylor's Louisiana brigades. I have read a great many histories of the war, but have never read one that was correct. I was an eye-wit ness to most of what I have written, especially the cam paigua of 1863 and 1864. I know it is truth, and the survivors of the old brigade know it is truth.
