A Study of K. --]. Pi. . Nu

Book Description

A description of the detector and of preliminary results of work in progress in its performance is presented here for an experiment to study the decay of K .-->. .mu.nu./bar /nu//. 4 refs., 12 figs., 1 tab.

Status of a Study of the Decay K. --]. Pi. . Nu

Book Description

AGS-787, BNL-Princeton-TRIUMF, began taking data in February 1988 on rare K decays into .pi. and non-interacting neutrals. Recent observations of B-/bar B/ mixing have sharpened the branching ratio prediction of the three generation standard model, (SM), to (approximately) 1-5 x 10−1° for .pi.+.nu./bar /nu//. The detector has 2.pi. acceptance for this decay and 4.pi. acceptance for background gammas. A very large window for viewing new physics exists between the SM value and the previous experimental limit of 1.4 x 10−7. Several other predicted rare K+ decays can be detected. The performance of the detector is described. 8 refs., 4 figs.

A New Proposal to Measure K^+ -] Pi^+ Nu Nubar

Book Description

For an experimentalist in high energy physics, the most interesting experiments that one should pursue is often well known. The very rare CP violating decay of the kaon into a pion and two neutrinos (both the charged and neutral modes) is such an experiment. We have recently proposed the charged kaon experiment to Fermilab as proposal P966. We present her a general overview of that proposal. The goal is to obtain of order 1000 events in order to confront the expected theoretical calculations and to search for physics beyond the standard model.

Prospects for Observing K. --]. Pi. Nu Anti Nu

Book Description

We report on the progress of experiment 787 at Brookhaven National Laboratory designed to study K ..-->.. ..pi.. + ' ... ', where ' ... ' is a one or more feebly interacting neutrals. The experiment will have an initial sensitivity of 2 x 10−1° for two or more particles (e.g., K+ ..-->.. ..pi..+nu anti nu), and 4 x 10−11 for one particle (e.g., K+ ..-->.. ..pi..+ + axion). The experiment can also study such reactions as K+ ..-->.. ..pi..+..gamma gamma.., K+ ..-->.. ..pi..+..mu../sup + -/e/sup - +/, K+ ..-->.. ..mu..+nu..gamma.., ..pi..° ..-->.. nu anti nu, and ..pi..° ..-->.. e+e−. 6 refs., 4 figs.
