Book Description

Excerpt from A Summarized Translation, With Verbatim Extracts, of the Diary of H. M. The Shah of Persia, During His Tour Through Europe in A. D. 1873 Next day, before continuing our journey, we received the notables of the place, visited the Persian mosque, and one of the others used by the Sunni sect; we went also to see the relics of Peter the Great and Catherine - two boats built by that Emperor with his own hands, and an enormous wine-glass out of which he used to drink wine with Prince Menschikoff, ancestor of the prince now in attendance on ourselves. Peter's tools were there also with which he built ships, and specimens of old weapons of various kinds. Our passage by steamer up the river to where we met the railway was through a country so beautiful and so thronged with towns, villages, people, and cattle of all kinds, that it was impos sible to take one's eyes from their contemplation for one instant. Herds of pigs innumerable, black or piebald, which the natives of these lands eat. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
