In case of diverticulum in the neck, if the latter is filled with gas, percussion will produce a tympanitic note if filled with food, a dull note. Moreover, dilatation of the lower thoracic portion of the oesophagus above the hiatus, if filled with food, and also extensive tumors of this portion, will produce a dull note, Sharply demarcated from the clear pulmonary resonance.
