A Treatise on Urological and Venereal Diseases (Classic Reprint)

Book Description

Excerpt from A Treatise on Urological and Venereal Diseases Strict adherence to scientific cleanliness is equal in its im port to an intimate knowledge of the minute and gross anatomy of the urogenital tract, its abnormalities and patho logical possibilities. In the light of modern bacteriological research, urological instrumentation without proper regard to asepsis and antisepsis is nothing short of criminal. There are too many sources of unavoidable infection in the special technique of genito-urinary surgery to allow of the least lati tude in the use of the known precautions. In the general preparation, the field of operation, the hands of the surgeon and the instruments to be used should be subjected to as severe antiseptic treatment as their substances will allow, and, previous to urethral or vesical instrumenta tion, it is advisable to administer for a few days drugs which when eliminated by the kidneys have an antiseptic action upon the urinary tract. Book Description

Excerpt from A Practical Treatise on Genito-Urinary and Venereal Diseases and Syphilis IN preparing this third edition the author has endeavored, as in the past, to present a practical, up-to - date, and compact treatise. His aim has. Been to avoid both the tediousness of an encyclopaedia and the dis appointing brevity of an epitome, and to present a thorough, systematic description of the cognate subject-s treated in this volume in a terse and clear manner. Care has been exercised not to overburden the text by describing in detail as morbid entities symptoms and conditions which constitute well-recognized abnormal states. The Practice of Urology

Book Description

Excerpt from The Practice of Urology: A Surgical Treatise on Genito-Urinary Diseases, Including Syphilis Since the first publication of this work, the author finds that, in the main, _ there is not reason to make great changes, and that his views upon the various topics considered remain, for the most part, the same as in the previous issue. A Treatise on Venereal Diseases (Classic Reprint)

Book Description

Excerpt from A Treatise on Venereal Diseases IN preparing the Treatise on Venereal Diseases. Of M. Vidal for the press, the American editor has aimed to furnish the reader not only with a faithful translation, but also with the views of some of the leading British and American practitioners. Messrs. Vidal and Ricord are both attached to the Hopital da Midi, the great venereal hospital of Paris, but in many respects the doctrines of our author are directly opposed to those of his distinguished rival. The annotations of the editor will be found to correspond, generally, with the views of the author, and he has been personally assured by many of the most prominent surgeons in Great Britain and this country of their cordial assent to the doctrines here inculcated. To Mr. Samuel A. Lane, of the Lock Hospital, London, and to Mr. Langston Parker the distinguished syphilographer of 'birming ham, he would return his warmest acknowledgments, as well as to Dr. Byrne of the Westmoreland Lock Hospital, Dublin, and to Messrs. Cusack, Porter, Adams, Egan, Fleming and Wilmot of that city, for their very polite attentions and for the communication of many valuable facts by which the object of his visit was greatly promoted. Genito-Urinary Surgery and Venereal Diseases (Classic Reprint)

Book Description

Excerpt from Genito-Urinary Surgery and Venereal Diseases In the preparation of this work we have endeavored to present clearly and with sufficient detail the generally accepted teachings of the day in regard to the pathology, symptomatology, diagnosis, and treatment of syphilis and genito-urinary diseases. We have exercised the author's right of choice in estimating the comparative value of various methods of treatment, and have given chiefly those which our experience has led us to prefer, though alter native methods are usually mentioned. As it was our wish to make this book one of practical use to the physician, much space has been devoted to symptomatology, diagnosis, and treatment. The patho logical alterations characteristic of the diseases and injuries described have been briefly outlined, avoiding discussion of questions still nu settled. Historical considerations have been abbreviated as much as possible, and references have been omitted, though proper credit has been given for special methods or teachings.
