Al-Qaeda's Revenge

Book Description

In Al-Qaeda's Revenge: The 2004 Madrid Train Bombings, Fernando Reinares tells the story of "3/11" - the March 11, 2004, bombings of commuter trains in Madrid, which killed 192 people and injured more than 1,800. He examines the development of an al-Qaeda conspiracy in Spain from the 1990s through the formation of the 3/11 bombing network beginning in March 2002, and discusses the preparations for and fallout from the attacks. Reinares draws on judicial, police, and intelligence documents to which he had privileged access, as well as on personal interviews with officials in Spain and elsewhere. His full analysis links the Madrid bombings to al-Qaeda's senior leadership and unveils connections between 3/11 and 9/11. Al-Qaeda's Revenge, Spain's counterpart to The 9/11 Commission Report, was a bestseller in Spain.

Osama's Revenge

Book Description

A shocking exposé on the potential for nuclear terrorism on U.S. soilEven after 9/11, most experts continue to underestimate the dangers of extremist terrorism. Not Paul Williams. America cannot afford to ignore his terrifying contentions. Williams reminds us that we have not seen the last - or even the worst - of Osama bin Laden and his hydra-headed network of terror organizations. - Neil J. Kressel, Ph.D., author of Mass Hate: The Global Rise of Genocide and TerrorIt's important to know your enemy. And Paul Williams in this book sheds light on the evil intentions of Osama bin Laden like few others do. - Brian Kilmeade, cohost of Fox & FriendsFormer consultant for the FBI on organized crime and international terrorism and a seasoned investigative reporter, Paul Williams reveals the potential for nuclear terrorism on U.S. soil in this shocking exposé. Based on the findings of U.S., Israeli, Pakistani, and U.K. intelligence, Williams describes how the theft of tactical nuclear weapons from Russian arsenals have in all likelihood made their way to al-Qaeda cells throughout the United States in preparation for the next terrorist attack.Williams presents evidence showing that, in the chaos following the demise of the Soviet Union, the Chechen mafia got their hands on portable Russian nuclear weapons. Between 1996 and 2001, they negotiated the sale of twenty nuclear suitcase bombs to representatives of Osama bin Laden. According to Williams, reliable sources indicate that these bombs may already be in the possession of al-Qaeda cells in New York, Washington, Miami, Chicago, Las Vegas, Houston, and Los Angeles. In addition, bin Laden has recruited former Soviet scientists and technicians to maintain these weapons and recharge their nuclear cores so that they may be deployed immediately on his command. In 2001, he issued a statement boasting of a Hiroshima against America. Also included in the book are bin Laden's Letter to America and his Declaration of War against the Americans Occupying the Land of the Two Holy Places, as well as the World Islamic Statement declaring Jihad against Jews and Crusaders. These crucial documents highlight the rationale behind and the depth of bin Laden's hatred for the United States. Moreover, Williams documents that Osama has the international network of embedded terrorists to carry out his threats.Although the media have reported on some of these threatening developments and government insiders have acknowledged the threat of nuclear attack, no one until now has put all the pieces together in a coherent, no-nonsense way. Williams makes a persuasive case that Bin Laden and his deputies have the motive and the means and are waiting for the right opportunity to launch an apocalyptic attack against the Great Satan of America.Paul Williams, Ph.D. (Clarks Green, PA), is a journalist and author of The Vatican Exposed: Money, Murder, and the Mafia among other books. Formerly, he served as a consultant for the FBI, editor and publisher of the Metro, and an adjunct professor of Humanities at the University of Scranton.

The Evolution of the Global Terrorist Threat

Book Description

Examining major terrorist acts and campaigns undertaken in the decade following September 11, 2001, internationally recognized scholars study the involvement of global terrorist leaders and organizations in these incidents and the planning, organization, execution, recruitment, and training that went into them. Their work captures the changing character of al-Qaeda and its affiliates since the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq and the sophisticated elements that, despite the West's best counterterrorism efforts, continue to exert substantial direction over jihadist terrorist operations. Through case studies of terrorist acts and offensives occurring both in and outside the West, the volume's contributors investigate al-Qaeda and other related entities as they adapted to the strategies of Operation Enduring Freedom and subsequent U.S.-led global counterterrorism programs. They explore whether Osama bin Laden was indeed reduced to a mere figurehead before his death or continued to influence al-Qaeda's global activities. Did al-Qaeda become a loose collection of individuals and ideas following its expulsion from Afghanistan, or was it reborn as a transnational terrorist structure powered by a well-articulated ideology? What is the preeminent terrorist threat we face today, and what will it look like in the future? This anthology pinpoints the critical patterns and strategies that will inform counterterrorism in the coming decades.

Infidels' Revenge

Book Description

Challenging the assertion that the death of Osama bin Laden rendered al Qaeda and other terrorist groups incapable of mounting attacks within the continental United States of America is, "The Infidels' Revenge," a work of realistic fiction that will open your eyes to new possibilities. Two separate groups of Islamic Terrorists-comprising less than fifty people-decimate the forests in the western U.S. and take down enough of the electrical power grid to send the country back into the 19th century. The Government responds by enacting sensible policies, strategies and laws, and it captures and disposes of the perpetrators... ..."The Infidels' Revenge." The reality is that infrastructure of the United States-such as forests, water supplies, bridges, pipelines, and the electrical power grid, are virtually undefended. The Internet makes this situation even worse. Google Maps, ' street views, and satellite views show every detail of critical facilities. The Forest Service's website publishes weekly updates of where woodlands are most susceptible to fire. Al Qaeda and other terrorist groups have a history of planning and conducting successful assaults ranging from the attacks on the Twin Towers and World Trade Center in New York City to blowing a large hole in the USS Cole, killing and injuring U.S. sailors. These decentralized organizations lend themselves to carrying out small tactical operations that frequently do not require central control or coordination by the terrorist organization, and can be carried out... ...by relatively few jihadists-this is that story!

12th and D

Book Description

The 12th and D Street S.W. area of Washington D.C. exposes a major vulnerability in our nation's security. Federal law enforcement agencies responsible for identifying and eliminating these types of weaknesses continue to allow the dangers to exist more than a decade after the 9-11 tragedies. During the editing stages of this novel, several people asked the author -former Special Agent, Jim Epik- the editors, and publisher of this book if this was simply a novel or something that could really happen, and if the scenario depicted -about the U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing's fuel depot and the adjacent rail line is accurate. Be assured this situation is real, and the deadly combination of hazardous chemical shipments occurring within one-hundred yards of a major fuel storage facility in the center of Washington D.C., is ever present. The mortal threat this area represents to our nation, the residents in our capitol city, and the millions of tourists that visit every year is a constant reminder of how inept the response of the government has been to protecting our country. Should security at this facility continue to be ignored, it is only a matter of time before a radical terrorist group exploits these obvious flaws that may lead to the deaths of literally tens-of-thousands of people in and around our nation's capitol. This story exposes the growing false sense of security the FBI, DHS, and FEMA continue to work so hard to promote, and shows a real scenerio of what could be, in a matter of time, should a radical terrorist group, such as Al-Qaeda, take advantage of such a massive oversight in our nation's security as what this one very real location, 12th & D Street S.W. in Washington, DC. represents. 12th and D has all the makings of a top grossing big screen action thriller, with one exception...this may could really happen.

The Strategic Values of Revenge

Book Description

This dissertation investigates the strategic gains that vengeance narratives bring to jihadist terrorist groups. It analyzes the narrative strategies of revenge developed, in English, French and Arabic, by three jihadist terrorist groups in their propaganda: Al Qaeda, the Islamic State, and Boko Haram, between 2001 and 2020. The core argument of this dissertation is that vengeance narratives can be analyzed as a “narrative resource” which can be exploited by “vengeance advocates” to strengthen and/or weaken a cause. After providing an in-depth investigation of the vengeance narratives developed by the three groups (avenging what, whom, when, where) and identifying eight revenge stories - vengeance legitimizes, mobilizes, intimidates, is a virtue, a vice, is undertaken against the group, is a foreign policy compass, and raises morale - in their propaganda, two gains are identified: 1) Vengeance narratives contribute to securitizing ordinary Islam into a security issue requiring a set of exceptional measures such as jihad, hijrah, and attacks at home. 2) Vengeance narratives reinforce the ontological security of the members of the groups and of the group itself. Revenge, ultimately, has the potential to give order, stability and meaning to exceptional, seemingly disruptive, violence. Vengeance stories, in other words, have the potential to stabilize chaos.

The Cambridge Companion to Religion and Terrorism

Book Description

There is currently much discussion regarding the causes of terrorist acts, as well as the connection between terrorism and religion. Terrorism is attributed either to religious 'fanaticism' or, alternately, to political and economic factors, with religion more or less dismissed as a secondary factor. The Cambridge Companion to Religion and Terrorism examines this complex relationship between religion and terrorism phenomenon through a collection of essays freshly written for this volume. Bringing varying approaches to the topic, from the theoretical to the empirical, the Companion includes an array of subjects, such as radicalization, suicide bombing, and rational choice, as well as specific case studies. The result is a richly textured collection that prompts readers to critically consider the cluster of phenomena that we have come to refer to as 'terrorism,' and terrorism's relationship with the similarly problematic set of phenomena that we call 'religion.'
