Combining two separate textbooks entitled Essentials of Human Physiology for Pharmacy and Essentials of Pathophysiology for Pharmacy into one cohesive volume, this new book seamlessly integrates material related to normal human physiology and pathophysiology into each chapter. Chapters include: Study objectives at the beginning of each chapter; Summary tables, flow charts, diagrams, and key definitions; Real life case studies to emphasize clinical application and stimulate student critical thinking; An emphasis on the rationale for drug therapy; Simple, straightforward language. Written by authors with extensive teaching experience in the areas, Essentials of Human Physiology and Pathophysiology for Pharmacy and Allied Health is a concise learning instrument that will guide students in pharmacy and allied health programs.

Clinical Correlates in Anatomy and Physiology (Second Edition)

Book Description

One of the challenges for allied health students is correlating the information introduced in basic science classes to the clinical problems they see in the field. A good clinician in allied health is knowledgeable in anatomy, physiology, pathology and other science fields. They are able to quickly apply this knowledge to the clinical setting for good patient care. However, both students and instructors know that applying knowledge gleaned from basic science classes to their own clinical practice is not always easy. Using short vignettes, "Clinical Correlates in Anatomy and Physiology" illustrates clinical problems that align with the topics covered in a first year anatomy and physiology course. Students and instructors can use these vignettes to better understand the systems as they cover them in class. These illustrative examples pique student interest and serve as the basis for classroom discussion, as well as introduce the concepts of pathophysiology in the context of systems physiology. While designed for the allied health student, anyone with an interest in processes of health and disease will enjoy these short discussions illustrating clinical pathologies of systems physiology. Mary Katherine Lockwood received a B.S. in biology from Davidson College in North Carolina, an M.S. in physiology from the Pennsylvania State University, and a Ph.D. in public health with a concentration in nutrition and biological chemistry from the University of California, Los Angeles. Dr. Lockwood is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Molecular, Cellular, and Biomedical Sciences at the University of New Hampshire, where she teaches anatomy and physiology and clinical nutrition. In addition, she is licensed in New Hampshire as an Instructor/Coordinator for Emergency Medical Services, teaches emergency medicine and CPR, and responds with a 911 ambulance service as an Advanced EMT.

Anatomy, Physiology, and Disease

Book Description

This is the eBook of the printed book and may not include any media, website access codes, or print supplements that may come packaged with the bound book. This engaging, conversational book introduces all the anatomy, physiology, and pathology concepts that students must master to succeed in the health professions. ANATOMY, PHYSIOLOGY, & DISEASE: AN INTERACTIVE JOURNEY FOR HEALTH PROFESSIONS, 2/e is designed to promote true understanding, not mere memorization, and to help students make the lasting connections they need to thrive as practitioners. Throughout, well-placed "Pathology Connections" sections tightly link A&P concepts to pathologic processes. Analogies help students compare the human body to objects and processes they already understand, and illustrations and visual features support the visual learning style many of them prefer. This edition adds new web-based animations, videos, and interactive exercises to its fully integrated website. It also offers an easier-to-navigate text design; enriched illustrations and new photographs; and a new chapter on biochemistry.

Human Body in Health and Disease

Book Description

Updated in content and pedagogy, this 14th Edition of Memmler's the Human Body in Health and Disease has helped hundreds of thousands of allied health students, including those with little background in science, to master anatomy and physiology. From its pioneering use of phonetic pronunciations to its pedagogically effective skin-to-bone transparencies of the human body, and increased focus on visualization, the new edition continues to set the standard for the one-semester course. This classic text provides beautifully illustrated coverage of the essentials of human anatomy, physiology, and the effects of disease. Throughout the book, anatomical art illustrates concepts with accuracy, simplicity, and elegance; medical case studies enhanced with additional clinical content to demonstrate the relevance of the content to a career in the health professions; and proven pedagogy helps students master the anatomic and medical terminology they will encounter in healthcare settings. NEW! The latest advances and research in the field are incorporated into every chapter of the book. NEW!Key Concepts are now aligned with student resources on thePoint. NEW! Case points link content to the opening case study. NEW!Misconception Alerts point out common student misconceptions, as identified by the PrepU adaptive quizzing program. REVISED! An updated and improved art program brings concepts to life. The Body Visible, a full-body transparency insert, assists students in performing a virtual dissection of the human body from skin down to bone and allows them to test themselves on their understanding of skin, muscles, bones, veins/arteries, etc. Disease in Context boxes provide an introductory case study illustrating a key concept in a particular chapter.Process Diagrams call out the steps of a complex process, such as negative feedback control or maintaining homeostasis and feedback mechanisms. Chapter Checkpoints include brief questions at the end of main sections to reinforce student recall. Phonetic pronunciations of key or difficult terms are spelled out in the narrative directly preceding the terms. Clinical Perspectives boxes focus on relevant diseases and disorders. Hot topics boxes examine current trends and research. Personalized, chapter-by-chapter quizzes powered by PrepU help students learn more and improve their pass rates on exams. Zooming in questions in figure captions allow students to test their understanding of important aspects of the illustration.A Look Back feature highlights previous concepts that will apply to their understanding the current chapter. eBook options available .
