Book Description

Estill V. "Eck" Whitt (1902-1987), son of Jonas Bentley Whitt and Mary Alice Rose, married Sara Ann Johnson (1900-1983), daughter of Herschel Vaughn Johnson and Cora Agnes Bailey. Both Estill and Sara were born in Elliott County, Kentucky and later moved to Clermont County, Ohio. Whitt ancestry is traced to Richard Whitt (ca. 1728/30-ca. 1809/13) and Susannah Scruggs of Virginia and the Carolinas. Johnson ancestry is traced to Jesse Johnson and Ann Stanfield who were married in 1798 in Greene County, Tennessee and later moved to Kentucky. Much information is also given on other ancestral lines.

William Whitt was born in about 1775, probably in South Carolina. His parents were probably Shadrach Whitt and Mary Rogers. He married Ferobe Middleton. They had eight known children. He died in 1850 and is buried in Duck Springs, Alabama. Ancestors, descendants and relatives lived mainly in Virginia, South Carolina, Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi and Texas.

History of the descendants of John Witt (1645-1715) and Ann Daux (b. 1648), who lived near the James River in Charles City County, Virginia. Early ancestors came mainly from England, Wales, the Netherlands and Germany. In the 1600-1700's, some Witt and allied families settled in Halifax and Henry Counties (Virginia) and in Hawkins and Jefferson Counties (Tennessee). Others also settled in Kentucky, Massachusetts, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania Tennessee, and Virginia. In the 1800's, some settled in Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, and Michigan. Some later families also moved to Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, New Jersey, Utah, and elsewhere in the United States.
