The monograph From Formal to Non-Formal: Education, Learning and Knowledge presents a review of selected aspects of non-formal education and learning, and is written by António Fragoso, Petra Javrh, Polona Kelava, Taja Kramberger, Nives Ličen, Marko Radovan, Drago B. Rotar, Klara Skubic Ermenc, Tadej Vidmar, Igor Ž. Žagar, Tihomir Žiljak and Sabina Žnidaršič Žagar. These authors are all anthropologists, sociologists, philosophers, political scientists, education scientists and historians of education. As such, the subject covered is a broad one and reaches into fields that at first glance appear to be very distant from each other. It is precisely this diversity of approaches that offers the best promise of new findings regarding non-formal learning, education and knowledge and that represents a fruitful basis for further reflection on these topics. The monograph thus offers answers to some starting points for reflection on the increasingly varied dimensions and possibilities of formal, non–formal and informal knowledge and learning.




Sonochemistry and Sonoluminescence


Book Description

Sonochemistry is studied primarily by chemists and sonoluminescence mainly by physicists, but a single physical phenomenon - acoustic cavitation - unites the two areas. The physics of cavitation bubble collapse, is relatively well understood by acoustical physicists but remains practically unknown to the chemists. By contrast, the chemistry that gives rise to electromagnetic emissions and the acceleration of chemical reactions is familiar to chemists, but practically unknown to acoustical physicists. It is just this knowledge gap that the present volume addresses. The first section of the book addresses the fundamentals of cavitation, leading to a more extensive discussion of the fundamentals of cavitation bubble dynamics in section two. A section on single bubble sonoluminescence follows. The two following sections address the new scientific discipline of sonochemistry, and the volume concludes with a section giving detailed descriptions of the applications of sonochemistry. The mixture of tutorial lectures and detailed research articles means that the book can serve as an introduction as well as a comprehensive and detailed review of these two interesting and topical subjects.

1 Introduction Data extract from Landolt-Börnstein IV/24: Surface Tension of Pure Liquids and Binary Liquid Mixtures 1.1 Selection of data This supplement updates Landolt-Börnstein's New Series Group IV (Physical Chemistry) Volume 16, S- face Tension of Pure Liquids and Binary Liquid Mixtures, published in the year 1997 [1997WOH1]. The update provides experimental data published in the years 1997 to 2006. The ?nal date for including data was December, 31st, 2006. Specialization and selection of data for this new update follows the intentions of the original volume. The focus is on non-electrolyte systems, and only data for pure liquids and binary liquid mixtures at normal pr- sure (or in some single cases at saturation vapor pressure) were taken into account for this volume. For m- tures, this data collection is restricted to binary liquid mixtures, i.e. no ternary systems and also no solutions of any solids, salts, electrolytes, polymers are included here. Surfactant solutions or micellar systems in water or other ?uids were not considered either. At least, also molten metals and metallic alloys, molten salts, molten glasses and other high-temperature melts were not taken into account. As the amount of data collected between 1997 and 2006 exceeds the available space for printing by far, the volume has an electronic version containing additional data which is available on www.landolt-boernstein.
