The Book of Ulster Surnames has over 500 entries of the most common family names of the nine county province of Ulster, with reference to thousands more. It gives the meaning and history of each name, its original form, where it came from - Ireland, Scotland, England, Wales or France - and why it changed to what it is today. The index is an essential asset to the publication - providing nearly 3,000 surnames and variant spellings, cross-referenced to the main listing. The book includes notes on some famous bearers of the name and where in Ulster the name is now most common. This new edition by the Foundation also includes an article by the author on the Riding Clans of the Scottish Borders, many members of which came to Ulster during the Plantation. The result is a reference book which details much about the history of the Ulster Irish as well as the Scottish and English who arrived from the seventeenth century onwards, and is packed with surprising insights into the origins of a complex, turbulent people.

The Reuben Atkinson Story covers little-known Texas history, the trials and tribulations of Mexican-Americans during the periods of political turmoil in 1836 and again in the early l900s. It covers events that show us how Mexican-Americans survived these hardships. The section about life on the ranch and life on the farm reveals the intuitive ways in which the Mexican-American culture used to enjoy the good times and survive the difficult times. The military career section provides an overview of the author's life in the United States Air Force in the late l950s and after. The author also shares his ideas for improving our educational system on a nationwide basis. The forms and recommendations for students and parents to use when applying to college and requesting scholarships may be of great value to them. The author has also included a selection of traditional Mexican recipes, wild game recipes and some delicious but weird Mexican recipes which will be of great interest to readers!

This ground-breaking work establishes a solid biblical and theological foundation on which a theology of the family can be constructed. It thus fills a critical lack in the current literature on the family. The wide range of sources, including Jewish, Catholic, Orthodox, and Protestant, give this work a genuine ecumenical dimension. Biblical and Theological Foundations of the Family will become indispensable for anyone wanting to engage in serious study of the structure and meaning of the family and its place in the salvific will of God.

The immigrant ancestor of this family, Thomas Atkinson (ca. 1725-1784), died in Washington Co., Pa. The earliest document shows him living in March 1767 as a tenant in possession of land in Gunpowder Manor, Baltimore Co., Md. He left Baltimore County and settled in 1773 on Wheeling Creek (then Ohio Co., Va.), which became Washington Co., Pa. in 1781. He had nine children. The oldest child was possibly born in Ireland, the next at sea and the rest in Baltimore Co., Maryland. Descendants live in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Missouri, Kentucky and elsewhere. Includes other immigrant ancestors, who came from England and Germany settling in Virginia, Missouri and elsewhere in the early 1700s.
