Atlas of Head and Neck Cancer Surgery

Book Description

Surgery for head neck cancer has evolved greatly in the recent years. Appropriate surgical resection with negative margins still remain corner-stone in achieving good oncological outcome. This atlas proposes a new concept of " The Compartment Surgery " to achieve negative margins in third dimensions which is the problem area in majority of cases. Reconstructive techniques have evolved vastly in the recent years with use of microvascular free flaps and this has significantly improved the functional outcome. Performing each step in appropriate manner cumulatively enables us to perform more complex procedures. Theme of this atlas revolves around this fact. This atlas on head and neck cancers takes a fresh stylistic approach where each surgical procedure is described in a step-wise manner through labeled high-resolution images with minimal incorporation of text. This allows the surgeons to rapidly revise the operative steps of a procedure within minutes just before they start a surgery. Head and neck has multidimensional anatomy and surgical treatment requires specific approach for each subsite. This operative atlas covers the entire spectrum of common, uncommon and rare cancers of the head and neck area. Each subsite is addressed in a separate chapter with further subdivisions for surgery of tumors with varying extent. Each procedure is demonstrated with photographs of each surgical step and line diagrams. Commonly used flaps (regional and free flaps) are demonstrated in separate chapter for reconstruction. With over 1000 images, and coverage of both the ablative and reconstructive surgical procedures, this is a technique-focused atlas in comparison to the available comprehensive texts. There are two chapters on very advanced cancers, and surgery in resource constrained surgical units making the book relevant to a wide range of cancer surgeons and fellows-in-training in varied clinical settings.

Atlas of Cancer Surgery

Book Description

This new state-of-the-art atlas covers all of the cancer procedures practiced today with numerous illustrations by Hugh Thomas, a master illustrator. Each chapter begins with anatomical drawings that are synchronized with operative procedures that are descibed in that chapter. The chapter concludes with a case that demonstrates uncommon approaches to surgery written by an authority in that field. The text features discussions on laparoscopic techniques, including video-assisted or minimally invasive techniques applicable to surgical oncology.

Surgical Atlas of Pancreatic Cancer

Book Description

This book comprehensively discusses advanced surgical techniques for pancreatic cancers, including open, laparoscopic and robotic-assisted surgery, as well as palliative surgery and total meso-pancreas excision. It also features high-resolution illustrations taken from selected clinical cases to enhance the descriptions of the surgical procedures. Providing details of technical issues and commenting on the outcome, it a timely reference resource for pancreatic surgeons, pancreatic physicians, and interns interested in pancreatic cancer surgery.

Atlas of Operative Procedures in Surgical Oncology

Book Description

This volume is the product of the author's long experience with melanomas and sarcomas and to a lesser but significant degree with upper gastrointestinal cancers, colorectal and breast cancers. As such, it offers a “hands-on” practical guide to approaching complex soft-tissue tumors and for performing more extensive tumor resections based on over 40 years of surgical experience. It provides important details about the positioning of patients, incision types, and exposure which can be of paramount importance in the resection of certain tumors. The book contains important general surgical principles for approaching tumors in a variety of locations but also offers the detail necessary for the safe and oncologically sound resection of these malignancies. Moreover, this operative atlas contains specific information for procedures which are not as commonly encountered in surgical training, but can be invaluable in the management of patients with locally aggressive tumors, such as hemipelvectomy and its variants, sacral resections, and forequarter amputation. Through the use of multiple detailed illustrations, Atlas of Operative Procedures in Surgical Oncology serves as a valuable resource to the general surgeon or surgical oncologist in the operative management of patients with cancer in the abdomen, retroperitoneum, pelvis or extremities.

Atlas of Procedures in Breast Cancer Surgery

Book Description

A practical guide to the procedures involved in surgery for breast cancer, Atlas of Procedures in Breast Cancer Surgery is a collaboration of practitioners from one of the world's leading cancer centers. Designed to give readers a detailed overview, each of the requisite procedures is comprehensively profiled, including mastectomy, lumpectomy, quadrantectomy, and other treatments. The authors discuss the latest developments in sentinel lymph node biopsy, refinements to the classic methods of excision and of reconstruction, and surgical issues in the male breast cancer patient. Each procedure is fully illustrated, step-by-step and in color. The accompanying DVD contains live surgical footage with spoken commentary. You can review the procedures in full-color photographs and then view six selected procedures on video. The combination of photographs, written text, surgical footage, and spoken commentary is one of the most realistic approaches to understanding complex surgical procedures available without actually scrubbing into the case. By creating the foundation of this text exclusively from color images of actual surgical procedures, the authors offer a vantage point similar to that of the operating surgeon. The atlas provides valuable information with coverage ranging from the most basic precepts involved in planning and executing a surgical breast biopsy to sophisticated techniques of breast-conservation therapy, regional node biopsy, and breast reconstruction. The chapter authors have, in the last decade, collectively treated more than 10,000 patients with primary operable breast cancer. They present a unique perspective on approaches to the problems surrounding the surgical treatment of the breast cancer patient-approaches that have been refined many times over.
