Autism Is a Blessing

Book Description

Autism and blessing, these are two words not usually spoken in the same breath. When you think of autism: struggle, disability, hopelessness, fear, and grief may be the first words that come to mind. Autism is a Blessing by Patty Corrigan Myers is a book of hope. It is a story about a mother's personal struggle to overcome and answer all of the questions autism so aggressively throws in her family's face. Interlaced with testimonials from other families and friends who have a child with autism, this book stunningly illustrates the fact that those who deal with autism are never alone. Through this family's triumph, you will learn the important and clear steps to take once an autism diagnosis is given, and learn, as they have, that truly Autism is a Blessing. Patty Myers has a way of communicating her experience in realistic terms. She allows us to see the real her-the pain, the love, the depression, the hope, and in return we see ourselves in the same situation. -Troy Schmidt Author/Screenwriter of the Hermie & Friends series Patty's life has been a testimony of the incredible mercy and faithfulness of God. I have no doubt that this book will richly encourage those, like Patty, who are struggling with the many challenges and mysteries of autism. -Basyle 'Boz' Tchividijian, Esq. One day he finds comfort in having autism and begins to accept himself and his autism. he went through so much as a child that it made him hate autism. All he needed was to learn some social skills that could help him be more successful in relationships with others. He sets out on a mission to get help and change his life. The man goes to counselor after counselor trying to get help but they do not seem to have any answers that could help him with his autism. His parents knew something was wrong with him because he was developmentally delayed and that caused his mother to worry about him all of her life. At the time he was born there was little known information about autism or high functioning autism. Had we had the information we had today there is a good chance that this man would have been diagnosed with autism at an earlier age. This gentleman uses all of his college financial aid money and student loans to pay other people to like him an spend time with him. He often gets taken advantage of by women he likes and he is very gullible and easily taken advantage of. As the story unfolds he loosens up a little bit and begins to see the beauty in autism. Once he begins to see the beauty in autism he recognizes that he loves himself and loves the idea that he has autism. Here is an excerpt from this book. "Today I have come a very long way. I am able to talk now and say almost any word that there is. I am also able to communicate what my basic human needs are. For a long time I had the most difficult time communicating to others what I needed in order to survive. When I was a kid and did not have any words I could not tell my mother that I needed something to eat. I could not tell my mom when I needed to go to the restroom. I just could not get my basic human needs met at all as a child but now that I am older and I have learned how to use my words I am doing so much better and my needs are being met."
