A word in a star/Eit ord i ei stjerne (bilingual edition: English and Norwegian)

Book Description

Bilingual translations ENGLISH into NORWEGIAN of poems by Hannie Rouweler. Translations by Jostein Sæbøe. Several themes. About a previous collection: "Lakes and Gardens contains an unusual richness of motives, ranging from family situations, childhood memories and landscape observations to passion, love, loss and loneliness. Despite these innumerable and varied glimpses from the life of a mature poet, there is no danger of disintegration of poetic style or character. All through the volume we are struck by the poet's ability to let her own distinctive features mould her visions into verses, features that are characterised by humour, sincerity, sometimes irony as well as a deep wonder at the small and big mysteries of life. The images and sceneries in many of the poems reveal the poet's practice as a painter. In the most intimate poems we sense the almost physical presence of the poet and at the same time we have a feeling that everyday words put on a deeper symbolic message." Jostein Sæbøe

Lakes and Gardens

Book Description

Hannie Rouweler (poet and painter), born 1951 in The Netherlands, published her first book of poetry in 1988. Her 15th collection "Wolken, ankers" (Clouds, anchors) was published in 2008. She has a direct and quite simple way of writing. With sparing use of concrete details she creates her own poetic world. In that totality she exposes a tension between dream and reality, past and present, imagination and phrase. Because of this she speaks to a broad audience.
