Buddha taught The Great Prajna Paramita Sutra in sixteen assemblies in four locations over twenty-two years. It was recorded posthumously by his disciples in six hundred fascicles of approximately five million words and is regarded as the largest canon in Buddhism. For the last decade, translator Naichen Chen has worked on this sutra, and it is the only complete English translation from the Chinese Da Bo Re Bo Luo Mi Duo Jing rendered from Sanskrit about 1,350 years ago by Xuanzang (Hsüan-tsang). This is the second volume in a multivolume set. The Great Prajna Paramita Sutra is important not only because of its extensive teaching, but because it explains what the great bodhisattva, the great bodhisattva path of cultivation, and the great bodhisattva vehicle are. It depicts, manifests, and provides guidance on how one should learn to become a bodhisattva—and eventually a Buddha—transcending self-interest to reach a state of emptiness, selflessness, and nonattachment. Regardless of where you are on the path to enlightenment, you will be nourished by its parables and dialogues.

The author describes the methods and techniques for opening the spiritual sense organs required to cross the threshold, and clarifies the differences between Imagination (seeing spiritual ‘pictures’), Inspiration (understanding those pictures) and Intuition (living ‘inside’ the spiritual reality). Structuring the book on his own biography, Thoresen conveys many of the lessons he has learnt through decades of familiarity with the invisible dimensions. However, he warns that there is only one good reason to attempt to cross the threshold, and that is to serve God and humanity in the name of love. If we do it out of curiosity, or to enhance our personal development, it would be better not to try.




Beyond the Sahara

Beyond the Sahara tells the story of a young Cameroonian who dreams of playing professional football in Europe. Not having the means to pay for a visa and an air ticket, he decides to defy the Sahara and the Mediterranean. The journey takes him from Cameroon through Nigeria in Boko Haram territory. He is rescued by Nigerian security forces and he enters the Republic of Niger. From there he enters Algeria and from Algeria they move on to Libya after losing a friend in the desert. He and his friend smuggle themselves into a merchant ship bound for Barcelona. They are identified and his friend is killed while he jumps into the sea in a desperate attempt to escape. Some of his companions are arrested and deported to Nigeria. The story criticizes the socio political situation in Africa and depicts many aspects of the African tradition. The man from Australia is your brother; the woman from Afghanistan is your sister; the man from Syria is your brother; the woman from America is your sister and the man from Africa is your brother too.
