Proceedings of International Conference on Innovations in Biotechnology and Life Sciences

Book Description

The International Conference on Innovations in Biotechnology and Life Sciences (ICIBLS), 2020 was hosted by Delhi Technological University (formerly known as Delhi College of Engineering) virtually between 18th Dec - 20th Dec 2020. The three-day virtual conference witnessed a total of 1200 participants across different parts of the globe. The conference also provided a platform to 20 participants to present their innovative research work covering broad topics like Bioinformatics, Cancer Biology, Cell Biology, Disease Detection, Environmental Biotechnology, Food Technology, Immunology, Microbiology, Nanotechnology, Neuroscience, and Plant Biotechnology. In addition to this,13 national and international speakers and an industry-academia panel discussion enriched the conference with their knowledge and insights of the field. Thus, the conference provided a conducive environment that enabled accomplished scientists and research scholars to share their experiences and scientific knowledge related to novel and fundamental advances in the field of Biotechnology and Life Sciences. The present book is a compilation of the abstracts submitted to the conference on recent advances in the field of biotechnology and life sciences. The innovative ideas and studies of students and researchers from all over the globe are being compiled for upliftment and flourishing of science and research.

Biotechnology and the Future of Society

Book Description

Breakthroughs in biotechnology are redefining the very concept of life, transforming society and presenting unprecedented opportunities and challenges: Will human genome sequencing help to treat genetic diseases and indefinitely prolong life? Will stem cell therapy and tissue engineering allow routine regeneration and replacement of diseased organs? Can new diagnostic tests revolutionize medicine and healthcare? Will genetic engineering allow parents to design perfect babies? Can nature’s workshop inspire superior biomaterials that transform industries? Will genetically modified super crops feed a hungry world? With biotechnology set to be the driving force of the twenty-first century, mastery of the life sciences will be the key to wealth generation and economic ascendancy. Can the Arab World regain its past supremacy in these fields? Can it benefit from the biotech revolution while avoiding its perils? Such implications were debated by experts at the ECSSR Eighth Annual Conference titled Biotechnology and the Future of Society: Challenges and Opportunities, held from January 11-13, 2003 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. This volume of conference presentations explores the broad impact of the biotech revolution, highlighting trends in healthcare and molecular medicine, the genetic revolution in agriculture, the future of materials production, new drug discovery technologies and national security issues, including the threat of bio-terrorism. It also examines the complex ethical, legal and social issues raised by the biotech revolution that need to be resolved by governments and decision makers.

Biotechnology in the Time of COVID-19

Book Description

47 leaders from across the biotechnology industry tell their stories of battling the global scourge of COVID-19. Pandemics have killed at least a half billion people over the past two millennia. But in the age of biotechnology, humanity is no longer defenseless. The biotechnology industry is a diverse community of scientists, doctors, patients, entrepreneurs, investors, bankers, analysts and reporters, all committed to treating and curing disease. Over the past forty years, it has produced medical advances at an electrifying rate. As the COVID-19 pandemic emerged, hundreds of companies quickly pivoted to combating the virus. The contributors to this book offer inside views of this seminal industry, with historical and personal perspectives, lessons learned, and looks into the future. Diverse as these leaders are, they are united by their conviction that science and medicine will light humanity’s way to greater health and longevity.
