Discover a fresh, fun approach to painting unique flowers! Forgo reference photos and discover a more organic and joyful way of painting! With its friendly step-by-step format, Painting Imaginary Flowers features a simple, three-stage approach to creating flowers only you can make... 1. Drop in color (ink, watercolor or fluid acrylics) to create abstract backgrounds full of beautiful textures and "blooms." 2. Just like spotting shapes in the clouds, search for shapes in your background that suggest blossoms and leaves. Paint around them and watch the flowers emerge! 3. Add patterns in pen to create a lovely, faux collage effect. With plenty of mixed-media techniques throughout for building up luscious texture and color, even beginners can achieve happy results. Ten demonstrations show the versatility of this approach--from large-format pieces, to work in a series, and even Zen doodle landscapes. Never again will you be stuck for ideas or dependent on a photo. Every flower you paint will be unique, personal, and fresh from your imagination! Let your imagination blossom!

The imaginary as a critical concept originated in the twentieth century and has been theorized in diverse ways. It can be understood as a register of thought; the way we interpret the world; the universe of images, signs, texts, and objects of thought. In this volume, it is explored as it manifests itself in encounters between the verbal and the visual. A number of the essays brought together here explore the transposition of the imaginary in illustrations of texts and verbal renditions of images, as well as in comic books based on paintings or on verbal narratives. Others analyze ways in which books deal with film or television and investigate the imaginary in digital media. Special attention is paid to the imaginary of places and the relationship of the imaginary with memory. Written in English and French, these contributions by European and American scholars demonstrate the various concerns and approaches characteristic of contemporary scholarship in word and image studies.

The wedding bouquet symbolizes a hope: that love will sail into the life of the person who catches it. For four guests at Abby's wedding, though, love is the last thing they're looking for. Isn't it ironic, then, that when a whirling ceiling fan disintegrates the carefully crafted nosegay, its pieces fly beyond the crowd of husband-hungry women -and parts end up in the hands of these four hardened observers? See if the bouquet/romance tradition holds true for... Felicity, the love-worn florist who's horrified to see newspaper photos of her bouquet going to pieces. Konnie, the brokenhearted widow who's determined never to let love bloom in her life again. Rosie, the caterer whose dreams are crushed flatter than her wedding cake, destroyed by a clumsy groomsman. Geoff, who quickly hands his flowers to an admiring little girl - and to her big sister, whose love for him is anything but childish. Can God use fragmented flowers to plant seeds of love in fallow hearts? Can He create a bouquet of love from the chaos in these four lives?
