Intended to help produce safe, competent California school bus drivers, this document contains instructor's materials for a bus driver education course with eight sequential skill levels, including a final appraisal. The first section contains the curriculum's purpose and objectives, the California standards for a state-certified bus driver instructor, the California standards for a delegated behind-the-wheel trainer, and general guidelines for selection of training sites. In addition, information is provided on vehicle inspection training, brake system inspection training, and undercarriage training. Copies of a driver's inspection report and a driver's performance review also appear. Each of the next eight sections contain materials for one of the following skill levels: (1) basic vehicle familiarization; (2) precision training in vehicle movement and driving fundamentals; (3) transmission control and shifting procedures; (4) general defensive driving techniques; (5) specialized defensive driving techniques; (6) passenger loading and unloading procedures; (7) emergency procedures; and (8) final appraisal. The first seven sections each contain a table of contents, purpose and objectives, a note to the instructor, a glossary of terms, an outline of content to be taught, and a sheet on which the instructor can record the trainee's demonstrated competence at each task covered. The final appraisal section includes the purpose and objectives of the appraisal, advice to instructors on being tough but fair, final appraisal procedures, and a form on which to document the final appraisal. Key elements in the formation of smart cities are development based on cooperation between local governments and business, the realization of sustainable development goals, the creation of social sustainability, the advancement of information and communication technologies (ICT) and the use of innovative solutions. The theories of information and communication have become the main driver of economic development in a globalized world and the information component plays a key role in building the competitive potential of countries and cities. The purpose of this book is to systematize knowledge about the practical application and importance of innovative solutions in the economic and social fields. An important aspect of this edition is the presentation of innovations applied in the field of conservation, not only of energy or environmental resources, but also of economic, social and spatial resources. We propose that this edition provides a knowledge base on the basic concepts of corporate social responsibility (CSR), formulating the important role of management in the context of CSR, smart management, smart economy and smart cities. The book is a comprehensive study of the smart city concept in its broadest sense, covering environmental, social and economic issues. It will be helpful to professionals in companies, in logistics departments and in the management teams. It can be useful for practitioners and analysts in the transportation industry to expand applications of ICT solutions. It will also be valuable to researchers, doctoral students of economics in management and entrepreneurship, logistics, as well as students at the advanced level, as it brings a range of valuable information that can serve as base material and reference for further research, programmes and studies.

Micromobility is often discussed in the context of minimizing traffic congestion and transportation pollution by encouraging people to travel shorter (i.e., typically urban) distances using bicycle or scooters instead of single-occupancy vehicles. It is also frequently championed as a solution to the “first-mile/last-mile” problem. If the demographics and intended users of micromobility vary largely by community, surely that means we must identify different reasons for using micromobility. Micromobility, User Input, and Standardization considers potential options for standardization in engineering and public policy, how real people are using micromobility, and the relevant barriers that come with that usage. It examines the history of existing technologies, compares various traffic laws, and highlights barriers to micromobility standardization—particularly in low-income communities of color. Lastly, it considers how engineers and legislators can use this information to effectively innovate micromobility devices and regulatory frameworks that meet the needs of communities while effectively outlining guidelines for providers. These are processes must happen concurrently and inform one another. Click here to access the full SAE EDGETM Research Report portfolio. https://doi.org/10.4271/EPR2023015
