Calliope, a Greek muse, inspired epic poetry and eloquent prose. The authors of this collection found inspiration in many places. In "Foot Washing," a woman with an unfaithful husband finds grace in ritual. An epic poem explores the poet's Ojibwe heritage and her sense of place. Another poem explores a mother's feelings when her grown daughter leaves home. In one story, a woman married to an odd professor finds a way of life that is a very good idea. "Paddle Through" is told through the eyes of a young teen who has recently lost his father. The very funny essay, "I Think I Can," recalls the writer's kindergarten years. Calliope is published annually by Women Who Write, a nonprofit organization based in Louisville, Kentucky. Each anthology contains work from members, as well as the winning entries from the group's annual International Short Prose and Poetry Contest.
