Catalogue of the Collection of Magnificent Specimens of American Colonial, State and United States Coins and Medals in Gold, Silver and Copper, New York Brasher's Doubloon 1787, Paper Money and Numismatic Books

Book Description

Excerpt from Catalogue of the Collection of Magnificent Specimens of American Colonial, State and United States Coins and Medals in Gold, Silver and Copper, New York Brasher's Doubloon 1787, Paper Money and Numismatic Books: Of the Late A. W. Jackman, Poughkeepsie, N. Y Mr. D. K. Jackman, brother of the late Allison W. Jackman, and Administrator of his Estate, has given me instructions to sell at public auction without reserve, the superb collection of American Coins and Medals which his brother left at his decease last October. Mr. Allison W. Jackman was a highly cultured gentleman who de voted his life to study, having never engaged in business and being a most devoted son with an equally appreciative mother, his collecting was a pleasure to them both. Born in 1849, he early began collecting coms, which is testified to by notes in his Numismatic diary where he mentions having bought this or that in the early '6o's and his interest never ceased. Here therefore, truly is a life work and how well he has mastered it is shown by the coins which I describe in the brief space of an auction catalogue.
