Their names merely appeared on the books of the Council of the Uni versity, while another list had been destroyed by the fire which burned the College building in Fourteenth street. Even in the city and vicinity of New York, where are now known to reside nearly two hundred and fifty of the Alumni, no person could be found who knew the residences of any considerable number.
